  • New to Board, not to Atkins

I have been doing the atkins diet on/off for 8 years with success, until I had my baby in July of this year. I went from 69 kilos/152 pounds to 89 kilos/195 pounds after delivery. I started the induction for 2 weeks and lost 2 kilos/4 pounds and now I haven't lost anything more. I am really frustrated at this point. I do have a thyroid problem in which I take medication for and my doctor doesn't agree with the atkins diet although I believe in it strongly. This time I even cut out the caffeine, something I didn't do before and still no difference. I am using the recipes I found online and nothing seems to jump start it. The next step is to try exercising even though there isn't alot of time between taking care of 4 kids and working full time but I'm desperate. Any suggestions ?

How much plain water are you drinking daily? You should be drinking a minimum of 64 ounces (2 litres) a day...nothing added to the water except ice. You say you aren't exercising but Atkins isn't just about the food -- you need to eat according to plan, exercise and take supplements (vitamins) -- it's a 3 step aproach.

Post a couple days worth of what you eat (amounts of each thing) and let some of the good people here help find what you may be missing. You may be eating things that aren't allowed or eating too much or too little. There is a thread called Review My Menu where you can go post your food: Review My Menu - Atkins Diet.

There is also a thread regarding thyroid conditions - if you haven't found it you may get some good information that may help you here: Thyroid - Atkins Diet.

    Good luck
    Carole

Share the menu with us and maybe we can help. Often childbirth will change our bodies and metabolism so it is good to expect different things to happen. Things you may have gotten away with before may not work any more.
      Good luck.

Also how long have you been stuck? Lots of folks have a stall of a couple of weeks right after Induction so if you wait it out and stay true, you should get a drop soon.

Congrats on your new baby. I'm guessing that with 4 children you are probably getting a lot of physical activity already. You could probably round it out more by supplementing with activities that you do not get. FitDay and other fitness trackers have categories that involve household and other activities that count towards your exercise. Then maybe add some specific strength training and cardio.
