Trying Atkins for the first time. I am in week 2 and lost 4 pounds so far and am going to stay in the induction phase for 10 weeks. (Good idea or bad idea??) May be hard to obtain but I would like to loose 40lbs in the 10 weeks but I realize the chances of loosing 4 lbs per week may not be reasonable. I am also exercising to burn some extra pounds. Anyone else had similar goals they met by staying in the induction phase?

    Thanks

    Re: First Time

Planning on staying on induction for 10 weeks and losing 40 pounds probably is not doable if you only lost 4 pounds the first week. If you had over a hundred pounds to lose and had lost 8 pounds or so the first week it might happen but otherwise probably not. It usually isn't a good idea to sent time goals for losing a set amount of weight. You are just setting yourself up for a dissapointment if it doesn't happen. If you follow the diet, you will end up losing the weight but only at the pace that your body wants to lose it

      Re: First Time

      Welcome to ADBB.

Staying in Induction will not guarantee the same results as those first two magical weeks. Your body loses a lot of water those first two weeks. Probably not so much fat. So although you lost fat those first couple of weeks, you also lost water and from here on out it will be fat only so the weight loss is more likely to be closer to 1/2 the rate you lost in the first two weeks. In other words 2 pounds a week.

Since you have less than 50 pounds to lose, I suggest moving to OWL right after Induction. Moving on does not slow down your losses automatically, in fact many people lose faster in the early stages of OWL. True, when you get to the later stages and add grains, higher sugar fruits, etc, your losses slow down but not in Rungs 1-3 generally.

Also OWL will teach you how your body reacts to various individual foods and food groups. This information is invaluable if you want to keep the weight off permanently.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Yes I agree with the people above me. The induction losses are not going to continue. I know this is going to sound crazy - as you just started this and probably cannot wait till it is over - but losing slow is not a bad thing - you will have a better chance of keeping the weight off. And also if you start to incorporate more items you will also learn some skill as how to accomplish that.
Congratulations with all your losses so far. Did you lose the first pounds on another kind of diet?

Congratulations on a great start to a new healthy lifestyle!

I agree with all of the posts above. While you may not lose the weight, since you are exercising as well, take your measurements! They will be a great part of your success!!

            Welcome --

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and take a multi-vitamin. If you haven't already, read the 2002 Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) - that way you will understand that Atkins is not a quick fix diet - it's a lifelong way of eating. You can't will or wish your body to loose "X" pounds per week, it will give up what it will - following the plan to the letter is the way to go.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - eat enough vegetables - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.
Many of us use www.Fitday.com to track our food so we know what our carb totals are for the day. It's important you know what you are eating and how many carbs you are taking in each day.

              Re: First Time

Thanks for all the great tips and the suggestion of fitday.com. It looks very useful. As for the question of the original weight loss was also on the Atkins diet over the last couple months but have been off and on due to different events. Now I am on it for long term weight loss.

              Thanks again for the support.

There will always be events. You need to come up with a plan to follow your Atkins WoE all the time, not on and off. Did you figure out why you have been cheating and how you can prevent this from happening again?
