  • Just starting

    Hey everyone,
My name is Francisco and I am literally just starting Atkins. I ordered the book today (first step right?), and as soon as it arrives I will start with the first phase. I really like the idea of this forum. I think it will help motivate as well as build confidence, and meet new friends who share a common battle. I'd love to hear from people who have had great success with Atkins and who offer words of encouragement. Anyways, nice to meet you all =)

    Re: Just starting

    Hi Francisco. Welcome to ADBB!

Here is my story. I started Atkins in 2002 at about 300 pounds. I lost 45-50 the first year and then lost an additional 15 working with a trainer the following year. Then I kind of lost my focus and drive to lose. I have managed to keep most of the weight off through more relaxed low carbing, although I have bobbed up and down 10-15 pounds.

This year I have my focus back. I am losing again and want to get the other half of this millstone off my neck.

This is a great board and if you post and ask questions, we will keep you on the straight and narrow path to health and a slim trim you.

    HW (this time) 248
    GOAL ONE 228
    (take 2)
    GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
    GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
    FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

      Welcome Francisco!!

You'll find many wonderful people with great stories like Jill here on the forum. One place to go to read great true stories about weight loss is here: Before And After Pics - Atkins Diet. I'm so glad you ordered the book -- you are giving yourself a great headstart by knowing how the plan works and how to work the plan to your benefit.

Make sure you drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise starting today and take a multi-vitamin. The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out! Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - eat enough vegetables - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Many of us use www.Fitday.com to track our food so we know what our carb totals are for the day. It's important you know what you are eating and how many carbs you are taking in each day.

          Welcome!

It's as "hard" as you make it!

If you've been doing low carb, even a relaxed version, it shouldn't be too difficult for you.

            Hi welcome.
I have found Atkins to be a great diet for me. I don't think I could do anything else and lose weight as well as I have. The two first weeks are not that hard. They are actually quite exciting as most people drop a fair bit of weight then The first few days can be hard because the body is craving carbs and are sending out hunger signals - but being prepared drinking water and eating fat/protein snacks takes care of that. My best recommendation is - follow the book to a T. It is a very well thought out programme that works if you work it.

              Re: Just starting

I haven't been doing low carb anything. In fact I've been completely ignorant and oblivious as to what I consume - just being honest. I'm a fat kid at heart and I need to break this habit so I figured the Atkins might be structured enough for me to follow.

So sorry, fgomes ... I mis-read Chinadoll's post as yours! Must clean those glasses!

Another observation on how hard Induction is ... "how hard is it continuing on the path you're on?"
