  • Hello to everyone and I have a question......

    Hi everyone!
Wow what a wonderfull group of supportive, dedicated and knowledgable people!
I am a 28 year old mother of three young kids and wife to an amazing husband. I have decided that I need to finally do something about my weight so that I can be the very best mom I can be.
I did the Atkins program appx. 3 years ago for about 3 months and lost 35 lbs before getting pregnant with my last child.
I was very lucky during the first 2 weeks of induction last time to have lost 15 lbs, despite " cheating " a bit with fruit.

I started induction almost 2 weeks ago and have only lost 4.4 pounds so far. ( Yes I ocasionally indulge in a tiny amt. of berries. ) I am definetly in ketosis though. My strips have been turning to one degree of purple or another since about day 3. I am aerobically exercising almost 7 days a week.

    Here is my question.....
I am still currently breastfeeding my son. I know Dr. A says that induction is not suitable for nursing mothers but my son is almost 2 so I am not worried about supply at all.
I am wondering though, if the fact that I am nursing this time during induction ( I wasn't last time ) has anything to do with the slower weight loss?
I will be patient if it is, I would just like to know if it is the reason.
Also, when does water retention usual begin before a women's TOM?

Thank you and I'm glad to now be part of such a great group!

Dr Atkins does not explain why he gave that recommendation - perhaps he was concerned with the possible effects of ketosis and breastmilk. Not something we know a lot about.

I cannot really advice you to do this because of what the book says

Maybe you can cut out the really bad carbs for now and then really embrace the program when you decide to quit nursing

BTW - great that you are still nursing.

      >>Dr Atkins does not explain why he gave that recommendation>>

It's because there's no studies on the effect of ketones in breast milk.

The "official" position is that NO one nursing should be doing any weight loss phase of Atkins.

In order not to spill any ketones, you should be eating at least 50 net carbs ... your eating should be more at maintenance levels.

When you're through breastfeeding, then you can do Induction.
