  • New to Sight-with ?????'s

    Have never posted on any thread so not sure Im doing this whole introduction thing correctly. I am on my 4th day of Induction and have lost zero lbs. Was just searching looking for some insight into the whole induction thing etc. Am fairly convinced that I am just eating too many calories. Have been in Ketosis since the 48 hr mark but am seeing no weight loss register on the scale. I have only had one serving of caffeine each day- only in the am. and feel 99.9% certain I am not consuming hidden carbs as I am doing all my own food preparation. Have also had two servings per day of sweetner(in my tea) and also about to hit my TOM in my cycles. Thoughts? Insight? I have read all the input about caffeine and sweetners but seem to be WELL below the mark in those areas- just eating too much i suppose

    Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

    Atkins isn't about the calories. But ... how many are you eating?

    More importantly, how many net carbs are you eating?

    That can cause water retention which turns in to no weight loss.

      sorry to be confusing- Introduction to the boards thing correctly- Not Induction- tho obviously I am confused about something there! Yes "reading" the book. My calories are anywhere between 1500- 1800. No more than 11 net carbs and also power walk for at least an hour a day. I know I am shooting for a relatively low weight loss and should only expect 10% during Induction. But am major carb-aholic. Previous to induction consumed 85% of calories from carbs.

        Sorry ... I misread "Introduction" for "Induction"!

        11 net carbs ... well, I consider that not eating enough ... and could explain, along with TOM, no weight loss.

        I interpret DANDR (Rule # 3 of Induction) to be that we eat AT 20 net carbs and most (more than 11) of those net carbs coming from Induction vegetables.

        Yes ... since you only want to lost 13 pounds, your rate of loss will be slow.

          Could you post a day's menu for us to see where your carbs are coming from?

            Breakfast is scrambled about 3 oz of sausage scrambled with 2 eggs.
            snack is half avocado
            lunch chicken cesar salad- no croutons of course
            snack half a hamburger patty
            dinner 2 chicken breasts with cheese on top.

            that was yesterdays meals- as I tried to be more conscious about calories.

            Thoughts?? suggestions??

              Did you do calorie restriction before you started Atkins? Or any other diet?
              Do you drink at least 64 oz of water. Do you exercise?

                Never been able to do calorie restrictions, but read yesterday on several posts that you actually do have to keep that in mind with atkins and not just eat with sweet abandon. I am 5'2 and power walk at least and hour a day. I turned 40 this year and all that carb love caught up with me and I have gained 7 lbs this year alone!!!

                  oops forgot and do drink a ton of water- just looked at the size of my water bottle it holds 33.8 oz and I drink at least two closer to three a day.

                    You need to eat 3 cups of veggies and spread those out a bit over the day. eat varied veggies - to get good nutrients in
                    You need to make sure there are not sugars in your sausage
                    Also perhaps try FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and see how many carbs and how much fat and protein you are getting. Helps to adjust the macro nutrients a bit.

                    Probably need a bit of patience. Stick to it and don't restrict calories too much. They will restrict themselves naturally when you hit ketosis - but you need to eat fat to hit ketosis.

                    Yup hitting the fourties can be trouble
                    Did you have a docter's check up lately - had a look at your thyroid?

                      Did the full blood panel about 3 months ago. But quite honestly i'm sure its a combo of unrestrained food intake- which I could always exercise away by marathon running- but this year my knees have become just to worn down to do much running and ergo the weight gain. I love veggies but its been hard to me to get them in other than thru a big salad at lunch time. But obviously need to make a more conscious effort to spread them out. Of course starting my TOM today adds to the water retention, but according to my ketostix I have been in ketosis since the 48 hour mark. Its mostly just a patience thing I'm sure.

                        It really sounds like you are on track there. It may be the water retention of TOM so you do not have a big show on scale. Judging from what you are saying you are a fit person with a somewhat healthy life style and yes Atkins will work for you but you will not experience a miracle drop like some people who come here with different life styles. Glad to hear that you are ready to just move on and work on it. Let us know what happens once that TOM is gone

                            Why can't you have them at dinner? Why not at breakfast? It's easy enough to have vegetables with scrambled eggs. Having them all at one meal isn't a good plan.

                              You should spread your vegetables out during the day to keep your blood sugar stable -- eating them all at once is not how the plan was designed.

                              You don't have much weight to loose so you won't loose as quickly as others. Also, it's best not to compare what everyone else is doing - your body, your meals, your equilibuim, everything is different than anyone else so just concentrate on what you are doing.

                              Once your perod is over if you continue to eat the Atkins way and drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily you should see some loss on the scales.
