  • the losing inches gaining pounds question

hi, just joined.. started atikins 01/01/09. went from 190 to 165; downgraded from a size 18 to size 12 pant..whooohoo!

Now, have been bouncing from 165 to 170 since 01 aug. In august i got a pair of size 10's buttoned - but could not get the zipper up..(it was funny)

Today, i can get them buttoned and zipped ( not the prettiest sight).

How can i get the weigh loss started again? have been counting carbs, drinking (water), and excercising.

appreciate any advise...would like to drop 20lbs by 12/31/09.

Oh..and the husband went from 240 to 192...he looks great - we love atkins and we love bacon!

Why are you still on Induction?

Hi there and welcome! Congrats on your success so far, and your husband's too.

I think that the important thing is you are losing inches. You can get that zipper up now. Yay! Sometimes it just takes a little time for the results to show on the scale. You could also be building muscle, which weighs more volume for volume than fat which would explain it.

      Happy continued losing!

not really still in induction; but trial and error has shown me that i am sensitive to the carb intake - so i need to be very careful.

But in august, my weight loss came to a halt, and i never have had the weight gain thing happen to me; it was just a slow and steady loss.

I can't figure out what's happening, and i have not changed my regime.

        thanks for caring...

Welcome to the world of plateaus!

What phase of Atkins are you really on?

How many net carbs are you actually eating?

Re: the losing inches gaining pounds question

I think that you may have entered a bit of slippery slope with carbs if you are not really in induction. After induction you have to take a conscious choice to eat according to the OWL ladder - if you start to add in new items here and there you can get into issues.
Do you want to share a menu with us and we can figure out what you can start doing to get on track again.
Congratulations on doing so well and hanging in there.

Also it helps to ramp up your exercise and really change up your program a bit. Sometimes that will shake up the scale too.

Thanks for your nice comment Sequimgirl. I'm sure we'll see you hit goal too, soon. Stick with it and when you get there, the loss phase will seem to have passed in a flash!

Agreed. The most important thing is that you're losing inches, and looking great. Unless you're a professional athlete, the numbers on the scale don't matter, because eventually it will go down (water retention also plays a big role in weight loss during Atkins, or lack thereof). Don't worry about it. Gaining muscle coudl also be a possibility, and seeing as you're a female, you sure you're not overdoing the weights a bit? Heheh j/k, stick with cardio and aerobics and you'll be fine.
