  • need help

    I am a 39 year old female...I have 7 kids..their ages are 15..7..4..4..3..2..9months...whew!,,,I started losing weight about 6 months ago..my start weight was 260..i now weigh210 my goal is 150..I am on my 8 day of the induction phase and I have gained 4 lbs...I know at least 10 people who have tried this diet and lost lots of weight,,,,it's not looking good for me though,,,I have ate only steak boiled eggs and every other night I have 2 cups of lettuce.I have been averaging about 14 carbs a day and most of that is my coffee creamer....I need HELP....

    You might want to post a complete menu, including amounts and net carbs. Difficult to troubleshoot without a menu.

    Or did they choose it as their way of eating for life?

    2 cups of lettuce are hardly giving you any nutrition. Not eating enough carbs will slow you down. You need more net carbs from vegetables in your diet.

    How much water are you drinking?

    I have been averaging about 14 carbs a day and most of that is my coffee creamer....
    Most of your net carbs should come from veggies, not coffee creamer.

    Did you check the ingredients in coffee creamer? That stuff has a lot of junk in it. Not allowed on Atkins.

    I need HELP....

      Welcome to ADBB
      We want to help for sure but yeah - that coffee creamer has to go and you have to figure out what the rules of the diet is. We use Atkins 2002 here and it is fairly strict on what you cannot do and cannot do

        this is what I have each day....2 scrambled eggs.....5 ozs of steak.....5 0zs of steak with 2 cups lettuce.....for snacks i keep diced up steak in the frig..and boiled eggs....I have 3 cups of coffee wth 2 pack splenda and 1 tsp creamer....I drink about a gallon of crystal light a day..my Dr.recomended since plain water makes me throw up. I didnt realize that creamer would keep me from losing weight....its gone..no problem.....I have the Atkins Journal and it has a list of the things I can have..I didnt realize creamer would do so much...I am really thankful for the help

          On Atkins, it is a rule that you need a minimum of 64 oz of water per day. Period. Crystal Light does not count as water.

            The sweeteners in that Crystal light and Splendas could definitely stall you. The limit is 3 per day. You are way over the top. If you gag on water, add a little fresh lemon to it and just sip it, dont chug it. But you have to have water, the Crystal Light will kill your losses. This diet isn't about low cal, its about your body chemistry and the Sweeteners are a pretty sour reality for a lot of people trying to lose.

              the Atkins Journal is a carry around diary to keep up with what you eat and it has the list of foods....I bought it right beside the Atkins 2002 book I bought......I read the links on water and all I can say is I am surprised that I am alive....REALLY...I HATE water.the taste gags me and as far as drinking plain water..I cold put all the water I have tried to forse down in my entire life into a gallon jug. I never drink water.when I talked to my Dr. about this Atkins way.He suggested that I use crystal light in the water so I could drink it... I have not always had a weight problem..I was about 130lbs from my teens till I was 33. I have had 6 children in the past 7 years and the extra weight from each preg.has piled up. I have lost 60 lbs on my own.Several of my friends have lost a lot of weight with Atkins, so they said I should give it a try...If anyone has any suggestions on how I can force the water down then please let me know...

                It sounds like you have told yourself for so long that you "don't like water" that now it's manifected into throwing up when you drink it. Like everyone before me has said - plain water is the only thing that counts toward your water intake daily. Anything "sweetened" will slow you down. The best thing you can do is get rid of all sweetners daily (I did this so I know what I'm talking about) and using real cream in your coffee....is that decaf or regular coffee? Because you are suppose to be caffeine free also - caffeine will cause cravings.

                As of today get a glass and fill it up with cold water sip it - quit telling yourself you "don't like water" -- tell yourself the water you drink will help your health, keep your internal organs functioning, will help flush out fat and toxins in your body and will keep your bowels moving freely.

                Here is what is in Lemonade flavored crystal light - so you know all the chemicals and crap you are putting in your system by drinking a GALLON a day!

                  A thought on the water. About ten years ago I had kidney stones, and was told to avoid them again, I MUST up my water intake. Well, I too didn't like water, and was told to do the following.....

                  Start day one with your half gallon with Crystal Lite.
                  Each day you make it, add one glass more of plain water to the mix.
                  Within a week you will have diluted it into a gallon.
                  Keep adding water each day, and you will be surprised at how weak you can make it and still have flavored water. Eventually it just became easier to not use it at all and I have come to actually enjoy refreshing cold water.
                  But I must admit, I'm a country girl and city water.... Yuck! I'm referring to enjoying clear, non-chlorinated, non-fluorinated water.

                  Hope this helps. You can do it.

                    You could also try infusing water. Take a couple of sprigs of mint and put it into your pitcher. I've also seen cucumber slices/ lemon slices put into the water. I agree with slowly diluting it, if you simply can't tolerate. great idea!!

                        And you need way more veggies. SInce you have the book, I suggest re-reading the Induction section. The lack of veggies is not helping your weight loss either.
