  • Here we go!

I joined this board a couple years ago during a 9 month low-carb stint that left me 100lbs lighter. I came to this board pretty regularly for encouragement, but I never posted.

After losing the weight and attending the wedding I used as my “deadline”, I quit smoking. After I stopped smoking, I started eating. I’ve gained back 50lbs and intend to lose those pounds for the last time! I may not be a super active poster on this board, as I’m a super active single mom J but I know I’ll be reading on a regular basis so thank you in advance!

After I quit smoking and started eating, I started smoking again. Ugh. Now here I am – 20 days since my last cigarette and I’m ready to keep that AND my food in check. Can I just tell you how scared I am?? If I don’t have food or cigarettes to numb me, I’m afraid that my emotions will run rampant. The good news is that I’m willing to take that chance… right? LOL

I started on induction today and don’t plan on weighing until November 1st. After that I’m going to try to only weigh every 2 weeks. The day to day fluctuations can be pretty discouraging for me, so I’m going to do my best to keep my mind on other things!

    Wish me luck!

Hi Joanne and welcome. You know, using the cigarettes and good to smother your emotions is like a ticking time bomb. One thing you can do is actively work at turning those emotions around so you control them instead of them controlling you. Use anger and stress as motivation to exercise and physically get it out of you. Sad or depressed? There are lots of ways to pamper yourself instead of food. Examining these issues will give you strength and a sense of control. So will exercise.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Congratulations on quitting the ciggy butts, that had to have taken alot of will power which means you have what it takes to lose the weight again as well. When times get tough and your emotions are running rampid those are the times to stop in here and vent. With so many of us on the board I am sure someone here will have some words of encouragement for you to help you over the hump. Who needs food (or cigs) when you have us?? JK

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin. We are all busy people here so you'll have to learn like we have, to fit everything into your day.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!
