  • Changing for the Better

Hello guys, my name is Donnie, and I am going low carb for life. I can't stand how I look. And I don't like how I feel. This is so unusual for how I used to feel.

I used to be very athletic, then I was in an auto accident in July of 2000. That was a life-changing event. I will suffer from that accident for the rest of my life. I am not whiny over it, I just kept thinking that physically, I would get back to where I was. LOL. I weighed 165 lbs on the day of the accident, six pack, muscle (I was a gym rat), a runner, etc., etc. Well, I will NEVER look like that again, but over the years I got up to 221 lbs (OMG). NOT going to the pool, beach, etc. You know how it goes. So, I finally have said "enough".

I started on Monday, October 19, 2009. Today, Friday, I weighed in at 211 lbs. Ten pounds in 96 hours.

What could be more encouraging than that?

Well, I will be lurking around the site, and chatting later.

    Donnie

What the heck was I waiting for?

          HI Donnie --

Congratulations on your success the first 96 hours!! What type of exercise are you able to do to since your accident? Make sure you drink enough water (minimum 64 ounces of plain water), and make sure you're getting a good multivitamin daily. If you haven't already, get a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) book - the edition we follow here on this site.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

            Re: Changing for the Better

            Thanks for the responses.

I drink lots of water. It has been my favorite beverage my entire life.

Exercise? Maybe walking. Depends on my right ankle: I have arthritis and perpetual tendonitis in it from an injury that originated in the Navy. It is usually like having a headache in your foot, and sometimes a migraine.

Lower back: pain from a disc problem. Non-surgical. I have been getting over a recent episode for the past six weeks. Good thing my best friends are chiropractors!!

            Neck? Constant headaches.

I can lift weights some. I just have to be careful.

Well, those are most of my injuries. I used to go to the gym and watch what I ate because I could look in the mirror and see WHY I sacrificed so much. Not any more. But, if I have to do this just by dieting, so be it. I ain't EVER gonna run my self thin.

That is OK. I will keep plodding along.

            Donnie

              Re: Changing for the Better

Welcome Donnie! I can't imagine how hard it must be on you to not be able to do the things you were used to doing, maybe losing some will make the simple things like walking easier on you now? I'll be praying.

That is an excellent loss for 96 hours! WTG! I have to be careful and not weigh everyday, I weigh in once a week now that I have a scale. Used to if I weighed everyday it would discourage me if I didn't see the scale move.

Glad to have you on board and I look forward to sharing in this journey with you!
