  • Hi I'm Angie!

Hey everyone, I'm Angie. I live in Portland, Oregon.

I hit 173 lbs the morning of October 18th and decided enough is enough. So I'm doing Atkins because a friend of mine did it and she said she lost a substantial amount of weight.

I'm flying home to visit family on Nov 18th, so that gives me exactly thirty days to get the ball rolling.

I'm curious to know how fast this plan works for weight loss?

    Oct 18th 2009 - 173 lbs ~ 0% of goal
    Oct 23rd 2009 - 168 lbs ~ 15% of goal
    Oct 27th 2009 - 167 lbs ~ 18% of goal

Hi Angie and welcome. It's hard to say how much you will lose because each person's weight loss resistance is different. You will lose a fair amount of water the first week or so but after that the losses are mostly fat. In the two weeks of Induction it is common to lose about 10% of the total you want to lose but then losses tend to slow and are not predictable (see the link at the bottom of this post). Those with more than 50 pounds to lose tend to lose faster and men always seem to lose faster than women. I would say you will probably lose between 3 and 10 pounds in induction if you do it cleanly and 1-3 pounds a week afterward. If you are drinking all your water, eating all the recommended veggies and exercising it could be greater, especially if you lose a lot during Induction (the amount you lose those first two weeks will tell you if you are going to be a fast-medium or slow- loser).

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Hey Angie, Congratulations on deciding to start Atkins, it really is a great way of eating. It will be cool to see another person from Portland on the board. Best of luck to you, and, more importantly, best of health!

Welcome Angie, I'm right above you in what I need to lose. Atkins is a very successful way to lose weight if you follow it as stated in the book? Do you have the book? It helps to read through it to have a complete understanding of how it works. Lots of other good tips and helpful information in there too. I just started 10-13 myself and I've lost 7lbs in 11 days. I'm praying that this means I'll be a quick loser and continue to see pretty fair amounts of loss each week. I haven't started exercising yet but plan to add it in soon. Welcome, welcome!!!
