  • Reformed low fat dieter

About 6 years ago I weighed in at 355 lbs and though a combination of Atkins and low fat dieting (WW) I got down to an all time low weight of 168 lbs in Sept. 2008 but just like with most low fat diets I could not happily maintain it and started to go into carb addiction overload. Today I find myself a year later and 42lbs over that 168 weigh in. I know that I have issues with carbs but tried to fool myself that I could maintain my WL eating low fat but it really just threw me into mindless binges of overeating and so here I am on day 2 of induction. I am reading DANDR and wanted to get a new understanding on the rules so that I do not derail myself.

My menu for today - veggies (peppers, mushrooms and zuchinni ) with egg whites (I don't really like whole eggs) and some roitessrie chicken.

    snack - 1 string cheese

lunch - shrimp and sausage salad with lettuce, celery and cukes and bell peppers and a feta cheese

Dinner - my husband is cooking but he is joining me on Atkins as well.

            Welcome to the Atkins Board.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

Congratulations on your successes so far, and welcome to the board. Many of us know all too well about those "mindless binges"... I always say there was a reason for that old (confessing my age here) Lay's potato chip commercial of "Bet you can't eat just one" Stay the course one day at a time, and you'll be at goal in no time.
