  • day 1 of induction

    hello,

my name is tracy. i am a 30 year old mother of 2 living in ontario canada.
I have a wonderful husband who has recently understood the importance of supporting me on this journey. I have been inspired by my brother who lost over 130# within the last year following the same principals of atkins, with his own twists. I have high blood pressure, and am taking medications that i hope to come off of some day. I have just dropped from a size 20 jeans, to my size 18 jeans
I have fought with my weight my whole life, and with atkins I am hoping that this will be the last time i see the scale at 254# I have lost 20# i the last 2 months, and just decided to try atkins to see if this can help me continue on with my goal.

Welcome.dont just try the diet for quick fixes this is a way for a healthy lifestyle.we at the board make it a lifestyle and after losing the weight there is the maintenance stage so it adapts to a lifetime of atkins diet.

Welcome fellow Canadian. I hope the weather is good in Ontario
I hope you will like Atkins. It does take some getting used to after low fat I am sure. Read the book. There are plenty of good pointers in it.

sham beat me to it. This is not a temporary diet. It is a permanent change in your eating habits. Atkins maintenance will give you back many of the foods you like and some newfound likes but you can't view this as a means to an end only to return to eating "normally" because "normally" is what got you here in the first place. It helps to recognize this from the start because you enter into it differently.

            Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Your brother may have been able to do something like Atkins but men loose easier than women - so following the book is what helps women more. I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

The new challenges will be starting in the next few days -- check them out and join a couple that interest you.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

hi everyone!! thanks for the great welcome and lost of advice. I've been doing well. got a new food scale to measure the cream cheese and cheeses. i do have the book, have read it a couple of times. im actually well prepared for this lifestyle change. multi vitamin, calcium vitamin..im "good to go". i had a couple of chips lastnight, but still think i stayed under the 20 carbs. it was halloween..c'mon!!! lol. i drink a ton of water already, i've lost 20# in the last 2 months, but need some structure. atkins seems like it might be ok for me. i had bacon for breakfast on saturday for the first time in 6 months.. i had a really bad stomach on saturday night though, not used to the grease. i do the wii fit at night, and my husband is gone to get me "the biggest loser" i am updating and posting in induction forum...keep an eye out for me, i'm gonna be a superstar!!! hehe

i know there is no c'mon really. i am just admitting to what i did, and not hitting myself over the head for it. I learned along time ago that if i do beat myself up over it, which is what all of your posts to me tonight have made me do, although im pretty sure it was unintentional, then im going to get nowhere. I'm being honest to me, and im being honest to the question that was asked of me..what's happening. will keep updating honestly on my journey, and will continue to keep my positive frame of mind instead of tearing myself down. thanks to all that have given me words of encouragement so far, good luck to all of you as well

Didn't mean to "bully" you ... that's certainly not my intention.

"Support" comes in many ways ... thank goodness the people who supported me when I was starting didn't enable me ... or think that patting me on the back for eating a few chips would be a good thing!

Yes, your weight loss of 20 pounds is good ...

Are a few chips worth throwing that all away?

And ... this is now ... you were discussing what you did NOW ... not before.

thanks, i changed the post, hoping it would change before anyone read it. i think im just having a bad night, and needing a bit more encouragement than tough love right now. no it's not worth throwing it all way...absolutely not. i appreciate your honesty, and im not really looking forward to being accountable for what i'm doing. thank you for your interest in me and my journey..im just really really having a bad night. im hungry, trying not to go lick out a sugar bowl, and i think i have that atkins flu everyone is talking about.
again, thank you for taking the time to even read and hold me accountable for what i'm doing.

If you're hungry ... go eat something!

Here's a secret, Tracy ... you're only accountable to you.

At the end of the day ... you only "cheat" yourself.

The choices you make are yours.

So ... go eat something fatty ... have some water ... and read Chapter 11 of DANDR!

Atkins is a process ... keep moving forward ... but learn from "the chips" ... listen to what they're telling you.
