  • Hello from Ontario!!

    Hello All,

Im 21 year old mother to many animals, and wife to a supportive and tolerant) hubby.

I was reading a magazine article talking about the benefits of a low carb lifestyle and decided to give it a shot!

I have tried just about everything, most of which cut out everything I love from my diet, thus in turn makes me A) binge uncontrollably like I have never eaten before or B) your worst nightmare

I am currently employed as a gym attendant at a fitness center...it's kind of an oxymoron, but I have a free membership! <-- if only I would use it

I have been overweight for most of my life, when I was younger I was extremely active with both figure-skating and equestrian sports.

I am setting my first goal for 70 pounds and then I will reset it when I get there!

    Re: Hello from Ontario!!

    Hi & welcome fellow Canadian!

There are many different lo-carb diets and several versions of Atkins. Dr. Atkins improved upon his plan over his lifetime, then the Atkins corporation made changes after his death. On this board, we go by Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002ed, which is the last book published while the good doctor was still alive. It is about eating whole, unprocessed foods, and starting out fairly restrictive for the first two weeks, then adding foods back in a certain order, based on their impact on blood-sugar. Getting & reading the book will help immensely.

    Best wishes for your journey!

Welcome to ADBB. As Julie says, reading the book is vital. Even small digressions can result in a big problem on the scale. If you don;t have the book, go to the Induction threads and read them all before you start.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

        Welcome to ADBB -

If you don't have the 2002 book look at www.half.com or www.amazon.com for a copy (if you can't find one locally). I just ordered another copy and paid less than $5.00 for the book and shipping.

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin. The new challenges are starting for the month -- check them out and join a couple that interest you.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

          Re: Hello from Ontario!!

Thanks for the advice!!! Very appreciated!

Ordering the book fed my e-bay addiction I paid $14 inc first class international shipping from the US. I wish I didn't love e-bay!!

I had planned to start today, and think I still will regardless if I have the book in my paws or not. I had two poached eggs for b-fast... thinking now I should not have had ketchup with them, sauces are such an issue for me! I had less then a tablespoon on them

Yes ketchup is a no no. It is all the sugar in it. So that is one of the first things we have to get used to is to read labels and avoid any product with sugar or starch. There is a heinz sugar reduced ketchup out there that you can use - it has an artifical sweetener in it, Splenda, and it is really good. I don't know where in Ontario you are but there is a low carb store in Ontario.
Congratulations on starting your first day.
