  • Putting it off no longer!!

I just decided to start Atkins...literally this minute. I've been on the fence, "researching" the WOE for seemingly forever and coming up with every excuse in the book that you can think of to not get started.

I can't tell you the number of days that I say "This is it. You can do it. Stick to the plan." And I derail, eat something that's off limits, and then I immediately throw in the towel...usually by binging because, at that point, I say, well - since today is ruined, let me just sneak in a little cake, or I might as well eat this load or "whatever the carb is of the day" because today is already in the crapper.

I had my typical crappy breakfast, and something in my just snapped. And for the first time EVER, I made the commitment to not let the start of my day derail my plans and goals to lose weight until the never-get-to tomorrow!

I signed up to join this forum, saw that there are plenty of people like me to share my experience with, and can say I feel like I'll be okay in getting started. I don't have to throw in the towel and put it off for the tomorrow that never comes.

    I am ok with this.

Thanks for allowing me to share!!!

    Welcome to ADBB!

I guess the book was not Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002), right?

      Good one Georgiana!
You'd be surprised at how you can displace your efforts on to everyone but yourself!

"I have so much to do with my daughter today and I haven't eaten all day long..." which for me is a gateway to binging on carbs...no matter how logical going in the opposite direction is!

Re: Putting it off no longer!!

Oddly enough, I think taking responsibility and not giving in "just because" allowed something to "click" for me to give me the boost I need to get started. That, and "publicly" displaying my goals.

I think keeping in keeping it in, I only have me to answer to. That should be enough, but sadly, in my current state, I need 'someone else' to hold me accountable.

I think the forum is a great help to me. It is a resource and it is great to see people in my shoes that knows what it is like. I would not worry about 'using' this place as a place to keep you on the straight and narrow. That is what most of us do here.

                Welcome to the Atkins Board.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin. The new challenges are starting for the month -- check them out and join a couple that interest you.

Make sure you eat something every 6 hours to keep your blood sugar constant - this will help you avoid binging later. If you'll be out of the house take a baggie with legal foods in it to eat, pickles, cheese, pepperoni, vegetables, etc.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

Re: Putting it off no longer!!

Welcome. There will always be thing that can provide you with a reason not to stay on plan. But you are ultimately in control and even if you do slip, you are also in control of whether it is a bite or an all out binge. If the switch has clicked on for you to be focused, WONDERFUL! Ride that wave as far as it will take you. Hang on for a cheat free month or two or more. And remind yourself of how far you have come cheat free as motivation to remain so. Instead of saying "I am going to be good" say it as "I am going to be good to my body" today. Its not deprivation to not eat those things, it is a choice to give your body something better. A healthier alternative.
