  • Hi guys!

I thought I'd introduce myself...I've been lurking for awhile, but I've finally read the book and I'm ready to start Atkins! I'm 5'7 and 189 pounds. I'm extremely addicted to sugar (this makes me a bit nervous) and the majority of what I eat all day is breaded/sugary. In the past when I've gone awhile without sugar (and by "awhile" I mean several hours!) I would get moody and eat sugar and all would be better! I know after a few days it will be better but I know these next few days will be tough! So I've got my work cut out for me...here we go!

    Re: Hi guys!

    Welcome!

Have you gotten rid of all the sugary stuff in your house?

Have you planned out what you're going to eat for the next few days?

Hi missgocart, Welcome to ADBB. You are right you may be in for a few rough days. Its called the Induction flu. Just tough it out like you would any other flu. By day five you will be feeling much better. Try to stay away from ALL sweeteners while on Induction if you can. It will help you kick that sweet tooth completely. I am sending good thoughts your way.

        Re: Hi guys!

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

You don't say if you've read the book or not but I hope you have. The 2002 DANDR book is the edition we follow on this site. If you don't have a copy it's worth a few dollars to purchase.

Killing your sweet tooth is vital from the beginning - after it's gone you'll be surprised how sweet normal things taste. Once you're into keotsis it will be much easier. Just don't give in - many people, including myself thought they could control the amount of sugar (sweetner) we use but if you have that much of an addiction it's best to get rid of the sweet tooth now. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (many people drink half their weight in water - but make sure it's at least 64 ounces - nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin. The new challenges are starting for the month -- check them out and join a couple that interest you.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!
