  • Introduction - And Question for you

    Greetings Everyone!

I just found this message board today and must saw it is a "well" of information.

This is my second time on Atkins. A couple of years ago I tried it for about 4 months and lost 28 lbs, lost 4 inches in my waste! A great success.

Now, I find myself sitting at the big 4 0 ! Currently my cholesterol is a bit high, same with blood pressure. No big deal on either one though (yet)

I started out at about 240 lbs. After 4 weeks of "induction" (as best I can) I am down 16 pounds to 224. I can tell that my gut is much smaller, face is getting smaller and people are starting to comment. Pretty kewl!

    MY QUESTION
I lost that weight in the first 12 days or so of the diet. I don't think I have changed much of anything since then. I have been 16 days of "maybe" loosing a pound, but no more. How long do these "plateaus" last? Is this normal?

I have had absolutely NO pasta, potatoes, bread, rice, cereal, breakfast bars etc. And, the most amazing thing is that I have gone from drinking beer 3 or 4 nights a week to NO BEER! I have not had any in the last 4 weeks and i can't say that has happened the last 20 years of my life. I have had an occasional Jack and Diet Coke, but no big deal there either.

Please give me your thoughts on this 2.5 week plateau! What should I expect? I really need to loose 25 more lbs and get down to 200!

    Help and motivate me please!

Did you move through all the phases of Atkins?

    Congratulations for the pounds lost!

Why "as best as you can"? What went wrong?

It's normal not to lose weight every day: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ot-linear.html

And not changing your menu might be exactly the reason why you are not losing weight. If you want to post a complete menu, including quantities and net carbs for every food, we can take a look.

How much water are you drinking?

How many calories are you consuming?

    You should move to OWL.

You don't have much weight to loose to you won't loose it all in a few weeks....like Georgiana said, time to move to OWL, start adding foods back so you'll be able to keep the weight off this time. Atkins isn't a quick fix "diet" -- it's an eating plan for a lifetime.

Make sure you are drinking a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added) everyday. Are you eating enough? Getting all your vegetables in daily? What form of exercise are you doing? Don't forget to take a non-iron multivitamin. The new challenges are starting for the month -- check them out and join a couple that interest you.

Have you checked your measurements from beginning to now? Your body may be changing instead of the scale.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!
