  • New and In it for one month.

I'm not really sure how to start this, i guess i'll just give an over view. I'm 19 years old and 5'7. I've always had body issues and i've never really been happy with my weight, the highest i've been was 198 and living with my ex boyfriend i was able to get down to 168. When i moved home in about a year i ended up about 180 lbs and i couldn't even get on a scale because i was so disgusted with myself, since going to college i'm back down 172. I'm going to try the atkins diet for a month and hopefully lose at least 13 pounds because i cannot remember when i was in the 150's. I'll mention that my over all goal weight would be somewhere between 137-142. Random numbers i know...

I guess i should say why i'm in this for a month... there was a guy i met over a year ago that i have kept in contact with since but haven't seen since. He's coming to visit me in exactly one month and i'm scared out of my mind. I'm afraid i won't be good enough for him even though when he met me i was probably in the upper 180's.

    So here we go...
I'd love to have some support since i'm too embaressed to tell my friends here what i'm doing and i do not live with my parents...

I'd like to say i will wait to weigh myself in a week but i can become a bit obsessive... i should also mention that i'm terrified i'll cheat.

    SW (starting weight) 172
    GW (for one week) 168
    GW (for 2 weeks) 162
    GW (for 3 weeks) 160
    GW (for 4 weeks) 157

i plan on checking in every couple of days.. or every day.

    15 lbs would be great...
    I hope this works.

<3 Goodluck to everyone whose trying.

    Welcome!

Am I understanding that your plan is to do Atkins for a month? Then what?

Atkins isn't a quick fix diet!

Low carb is a way of eating for life.

It's not a short term "diet".

When you go off low carb and return to what you have been eating, you'll likely put all the weight back on ...

Just so you know what to expect.

"Good enough for him"? I think it's a lame reason for starting Atkins... especially as it takes getting healthier out of the equation. Those people who want to succeed for others, not for themselves, usually fail. But whatever floats your boat...

If by "works" you mean you'll lose 15 lbs in a month... then you should know that weight loss usually does not follow our schedule. There can be weeks when we lose nothing.

if it does i will continue on a low carb until i am at a happy weight.
Why only until you are at a "happy weight"?

As J. said, Atkins is a way of eating for life, not a temporary diet.

And you do have a copy of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002), right? "Low carb" is not necessarily Atkins.

Re: New and In it for one month.

I will definately help support you! This is my third round with Atkins. In 1996 I read the book & lost 25lbs in 3 months....then went ahead & got pregnant. Needless to say the start of my downfall. In 2004 I hit my heaviest ever 202lbs & only 5"1'. My father died of being overweight. At that point I vowed never to do this to myself. I was always very thin. I lost 60 lbs in 10 months. Then I quit my job & went back to old habits & gained back everything except for 5 lbs. This past January I realized where I was headed again & got back on track ..this time I added exercise & lost 58lbs in about 8 months. I will admit I am at a plateau. I am still really still in induction & not loosing I have no appetite & eat probably 1100 calories a day if I am lucky. I know I will never go back to my old habits Im just learning about what makes me happy ...looking good again. & many people have told me I look 20yrs younger. Write back if you need support

Re: New and In it for one month.

Welcome! Do you have the book? If not get one, you can find them inexpensive online. I'm rereading mine and you wouldn't believe how much healthy information is in the book. Dr. Atkins also gives tons of tips.

You will lose weight on this diet but they key is to learn how to keep it off. I've been on for 32 days, and just today have I started really feeling good. This means that when you begin Atkins you can expect to feel bad. It's called Induction Flu- and it happens because you are CHANGING the way you feed your body and your body is addicted to sugar, high refined carbs, caffeine ect... and there will be withdrawal.

It's important to follow the steps so that you will know how many carbs you can eat a day without gaining and you will discover which foods (if any) you have reactions to. Some people are allergic to foods and never knew it, some foods cause people to crave sweet and increase their appetites. Dr. Atkins gives instructions on how to take the steps to make permanent changes in your lifestyle.

I don't know of anyone who could live forever eating 20 carbs a day without falling, bingeing or gaining back all the lost. The idea is to discover how much and what you can have. Long timers discover they live quite satisfied and happily on what their bodies can have without being afraid of regain.

Being a human yo yo is not healthy.

This diet is wonderful, but like stated before its not a diet for a little while, its a life change. You can do this. We are here for you! There are tons of recipes and advice here. We just want you to be well informed and educated as you progress.

                Hugs

Re: New and In it for one month.

Read the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution book, drink a minimum of 64 ounces pure water daily, exercise daily, take a multi-vitamin without iron - eat the food on the acceptable food list and don't make excuses - clean induction and continued eating on plan is what you'll have to do.

I agree with Atkinsgal and Georgiana -- if you can't tell anyone what you're doing and you're loosing weight for a guy you may need to figure out why....your health is more important that anything. Good luck to you.,

                    Welcome to the ADBB!

I hope you embrace Atkins for the fact that it's the best way of eating there is and stick to it so that you never have to go through the yo-yo dieting thing again. That way you can get on with more important things and not let your weight rule your life. Do it for yourself, not someone else.

                    Welcome aboard!
