I'm Siera, I'm just starting this diet with a friend who's a week ahead of me. I don't know a whole lot about it other than what she's told me; all good of course.

Anyway, that's about it I think.

      Welcome to the board!

I don't know a whole lot about it other than what she's told me
When you are about to do something as important as changing your way of eating for life, you should not rely on what your friend is telling you. You should read the book yourself. I don't even know if your friend read the book... and there is no guarantee that she is following the plan correctly.

The book you need is Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition.

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are excited about staring. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime. Once you learn how to eat this way you will wonder why you didn't start long before now.

A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase.

Don't forget to eat enough vegetables (check the acceptable food list
(What foods can be eaten on Induction?)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-low-carb-dieting-faqs/6781-what-foods-can-eaten-induction.html) - 2 cups from the first list and 1 cup from the 2nd list daily. Rules of Induction: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

I'm aiming for a total of 75 pounds. I'm going to get my book back from my sister who currently has it and isn't using it. I'm hoping that I will have the willpower to stay on track, I did good with WW years ago, but I'm having trouble with my allergies on it because I'm allergic to corn, mold -- no cheese or yogurt, rye, spinach, onions, mushrooms, and I just found out that I have an intolerance to wheat. So I have to do this so I can be a healthy mom instead of an unhealthy fat mom!

From Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition, Ch. 19:

I believe that the best way to overcome temptation is not with willpower, which is so often in short supply, but with our brain power, a potentially unlimited resource.

Imagine that you're doing great, losing weight, feeling better than ever, thrilled with yourself, hearing compliments from friends and acquaintances---and then it happens! Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!

              Welcome Siera!

If you do the plan as written, you will very quickly lose the urge to eat carbs and that will make you feel so wonderful that you will have no trouble staying on Atkins. It's the best way of eating there is and you will be so glad you stuck with it!

This diet has been much easier for me then weight watchers. When I was on ww I would constantly think about how I can fit in that next candy bar. Now that I am not eating anything sweet, it seems amazing that it consumed my life like that. I am only starting week two, so far this has been the best diet I have been on. Good luck!

                Starting 11/2/09: 218

                  Re: Intro

I agree with cchatf3. I found WW to be very difficult to stick to, mainly because i was having to think about food and what I could and couldn't have all day. I know the new program is easier but Atkins has been much more flexible to me--I can eat when I want in the quantities to satiate me as lon as I stick to my food list. I so prefer that to points. The fact that I also feel better, am never hungry, and lose faster (although I am still a slow loser) are all bonuses.
