  • New to Atkins...... Sorta

Hello, A few years back I changed to the Atkins way of eating and felt great and lost 70 pounds in just over three months. Then things got bad and I got lazy and ate junk and gained all the weight back and then some. I have tried to go back to this woe but couldnt get past the first day with the sick feeling. I started back on Monday (three days ago) and I feel great. I have been creaping on the board for awhile now and am feeling really motivated by seeing the results that people have posted. I just wanted to drop a quick line and say hello and thanks for the inspiration.

Hey poppa, welcome back. Glad you decided to walk through the front door instead of just lurking. Sounds like you are past the Induction flu and on your way!

        Welcome to ADBB!

Make sure you eat something every few hours and consume enough calories. Low blood sugar can make you feel sick.

Drink plenty of water. 64 oz is a minimum, but from what I've seen around forums, most people do best drinking half their body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 200 lbs, that's 100 oz of water daily.

Proper mineral intake can ease the symptoms of the "Induction flu." During the first week or so of Induction, Atkins has a strong diuretic effect, which leads to loss of minerals. Mineral imbalances can make you feel crappy. There are some studies where the researchers used bouillon and potassium bicarbonate to minimize mineral loss. Unless you are sensitive to salt, clear soup will help. And for potassium, avocados are a good source (they are limited to 1/2 a small one per day)... and so are other foods from the Acceptable Foods List. The USDA database will help you: Nutrient Data Products and Services
