  • Seeking Support!

Hi everyone! I'm new here and I am seeking support!

My name is Suzie and I'm from Ohio. I am an itsy bitsy 5 feet tall and my starting weight was a whopping 290 pounds. You can imagine what I must have looked like (an oompa loompa without the orange skin)! I am 2 months into Atkins and I am proud to say I am down to 224 pounds!

I have been stalled at 224 for almost three weeks now and I am getting frustrated, so I thought I would seek some support and encouragement. I really need some encouragement right now!

Besides seeking support, I am leaving for a very important trip on January 21st, and I want to know if any of you think it's possible for me to be down another 70 pounds by then. That's a pound a day. I'm stuck at 224 and I am frustrated and I don't know what else to do!

I exercise (cardio) 7 days a week and I do strength training at least 4 times per week. I still stick to under 20 grams of carbs per day because I'm just accustomed to it at this point, and it's quite comfortable. My typical daily diet is plain chicken, broccoli, salad with light dressing, some cheese and an egg or two for breakfast. I drink absolutely nothing but water save for a few cups of coffee a week with some milk and Splenda.

I am working on my signature, so bear with me!

Right now, I just need some support and encouragement because my frustrations are growing every day and I am not ready to give up! I look forward to getting to know all of you!

I think anything under the sun is "possible".

Realistic ... no. Safe ... no. Good for you ... no.

    >>salad with light dressing>>

"light" dressing is generally a bad idea on Atkins ... as generally additional carbs are added to make it "light'. You really should have full fat.

    >>with some milk >>

If you're on Induction, milk isn't allowed.

    >> I have been stalled at 224 for almost three weeks now >>

Your body may be telling you you're undereating ... either in net carbs or calories ... or that it's time to move to OWL.

I was afraid that I might be under eating, but it really makes me nervous to force myself to start eating more. I am not longer in the induction phase, but I have still been eating that way, for the most part.

      Thanks for the tips.

My goodness! In 2 months you've lost 66lbs! That's AMAZING! Congrats on that. I'm just starting out and your post really gives me hope and inspires me.

That's not really how Atkins works, as you know from reading the book.

If you want long term success, my advice is to start doing OWL the way Dr. Atkins intended.

            Thank you so much!

Thats wonderful to hear! I came here looking for support, but I am so happy to have inspired someone on my journey as well!

The initial weight loss was really easy because I really didn't do much working out. I walked an hour a day (never going over 2 mph) 5 days a week. Maybe I'll be brave enough to post some pics sometime!

              Re: Seeking Support!

Yikes, am I reading this right? You are down 66 pounds in two months, of which you haven't lost anything in the last 3 weeks? So you lost 66 pounds in 5 weeks????

If those numbers are true, no wonder you aren't loosing anything right now. That is 1-1/2 pounds a day, for 5 weeks, and your body is taking a much needed breather and getting used to what is happening to it.

I'm not sure you want to continue pushing quite so hard if you want this to be a lifetime change. Follow the levels for OWL, use a log to figure out your carb count and make sure you are eating enough to not put yourself into a famine mode.

Best wishes and follow the book.

                Re: Seeking Support!

After losing 66 in such a short time, it would be hard for me to believe that you could lose another 66 so fast. Don't be discouraged. Just continue with extended Induction and continue exercising, make sure you are eating correct foods and continue to exercise.

Be happy with yourself as the important thing is the change that you have made. You are doing awesome and I would HATE to see you become discouraged because your weight loss slows. Losing weight is awesome, even if it isn't coming off at such an alarming rate.

Remember this is a journey, we are in this for the long haul. Patience is a must.

I'm very proud of you! Hang in there and enjoy the ride!

Moving to OWL would be better, in my opinion.

Staying on Induction too long is rarely successful over the long haul!

                    Re: Seeking Support!

If you think you are undereating go here BMR Calculator - pur your info in and find out how many calories you should be eating daily.

Your body is probably getting use to the large amount of weight you've lost. Expecting 1 pound a day loss isn't feasible -- especially if you aren't eating enough. You should be eating high fat/moderate protein daily and plenty of vegetables.

I agree it's probably time to move to OWL Rung 1 and add 5 net carbs of vegetables to your daily menu -- many people, including myself, have done this to get the weight start moving again.

Congrats on your amazing loss so far! That's an incredible achievement, but now you need to relax a little and let your body adjust to this new weight.

Start moving up the rungs and don't let impatience derail your wonderful progress. You are doing great, so just keep at it. Your loss will slow but that's the way our bodies work.

                        PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP!!!

You are doing sooooo good. Just remember that perserverance and what you do day to day will eventually bring success.

Maybe this will help you. Just picture 1 pound of butter unwrapped and on a plate. Now multiply that by 66 times that is how much fat you have lost so far. WOW!!

Now your body is adjusting to the loss. I would try the next phase of OWL if I were you to help jolt your body into thinking it is not starving and keep up the exercise. IT WILL PAY OFF!!!
