  • My name is Laurie

I'm not low carbing yet, really. I only began considering it a couple of days ago, and I checked out the book from the library. In the last couple of days, I've been avoiding refined carbs, but I haven't actually given myself a start day yet.

The first time I tried to lose weight, I was at about 165-170 (2005). I got down to 145 by counting calories. When I count calories, I don't really avoid fats, but of course I kept it pretty low to stay in a 1400 calorie range.

Since then, I gained all of the weight back, plus some more.

Now every time I see myself in the mirror, I'm just so frustrated. I really want to lose weight, but I'm scared to commit, lol.

And, it is hard to think of trusting the high fat idea! It just feels so wrong!! But I'm thinking I'll just close my eyes, click my heels together and repeat over and over "There's no food like fat. There's no food like fat."

    Anyway, I'll be starting soon...

ETA: oh yeah, one more thing is that it doesn't help that I'm married to a thin carb addict who begs for sugary desserts (he could stand to lose some belly fat, but he's not fat). I'm a good cook, too, and my specialty is baked goods, like walnut sticky buns!

I have not started low carbing yet. I'm poking around, seeing just what this all means. As for now, I'm cutting out refined carbs and learning a lot!

I think we have to add walnut sticky buns to the profanity filter. I am so surprised it is not there yet
I think being a good cook just will help you on low carb - you will be a real foodie.

Yeah, I kind of felt guilty just writing it, lol. Thing is, I also love to take pictures of food too. For a while, I had a food blog. Anyway, I have beautiful pictures of "Food-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named".

Maybe I'll start a low carb food blog?

        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are excited about staring. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime. Once you learn how to eat this way you will wonder why you didn't start long before now. A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.

I know it seems wrong but if you try to do Atkins without using fat it won't work. I've seen many people here wondering why they can't loose weight or they lost a few pounds but are "stuck".....Atkins is a high fat, moderate protein way of eating and there are many here you can personally talk with, read their journals or look at before/after pictures who will attest to the "eat the fat"!

When you start, make sure you eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. You can get a copy of the book at www.half.com - I got a "used" hardbound copy 2 weeks ago and paid $1.05 including shipping...when the book came it had NEVER been opened and on the inside cover it said $39.95. It's better than missing a deadline at the library.

        Good luck to you!
