Well, this is day #5 for me and my husband. We are doing this together (sort of). I started out at 231 lbs @ 5' 7" and he started out 350 lbs @ 6' 8". As of today, he has lost 13 lbs and I have lost none. Not one lb. I have not gained anything either though. No, I have not cheated at all. I drink water, diet sunkist orange, unsweetened tea and coffee with creamer and splenda. I only eat eggs, meats and cheeses. No breading or anything. He will have a few regular chips, a hamburger or something like that every so often. I don't get it, what am I doing wrong. I do not get enough exercise, I know this for sure. I am going to clean the clothes off of the treadmill in the morning and make room in the spare room. I am determined to make this work. Also going to get some ketosis sticks to check to see if I am doing this correctly.
Anyway, that's where I am at at this time. I will check back with my progress later.

    Re: Newbie

    Hi and welcome --

What vegetables are you eating? Atkins is more than meat, eggs and cheese.....also diet soda and anything with caffeine will slow your weight loss or keep you from loosing. 64 ounces of pure water daily is the MINIMUM you should be drinking.

Post exactlly what you eat, amounts of each food and let us see if there is anything else we can see. Men loose faster and easier than women do, so don't compare what your husband does along side of what you do.

Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs)http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

    Good luck to you!

      Re: Newbie

I have read the book. I did not read that caffeine would slow down the process. I did read that he liked to have people cut out things like caffeine due to the addictive properties. The coffee I drink is 1/2 Caff anyway. I drink herbal teas with no caffeine and of course the Sunkist does not have caffeine. I drink more than the 64 oz of water per day. I stick strictly to the accepted foods list. This morning it was 2 sausage patties and 2 fried eggs. For lunch it was a can of vienna sausages. For dinner it was about 12 grilled shrimp and 1/2 a t-bone and 1/4 spagetti squash with butter and pepper. I don't get hungry very much anymore. The DH always loses more. I just like to gripe about it. It makes him feel good. haha

Coffee creamers often contain things that are not included in induction including corn syrups. Diet sodas are discouraged and sweeteners are limited to 3 per day (that would be three 8 ounce servings assuming you only have sweeteners in soda). You should be eating most of your carbs in allowed vegetables and limiting your cheeses to about 3 ounces a day. For your weight you should be drinking about 115 ounces of water, plain water, daily. If you have been doing all these things, then be patient. It will happen. But know that the heavier you are the faster it tends to come off and that men ALWAYS seem to lose much faster than women. Finally, exercise is non-negotiable. Even if it is just a walk around the block get you and do something daily.

          Re: Newbie

Yea, I know. There are some things that I have to give up. I have been counting every carb. Even in the creamer (using half & half now instead). Got on the scales this morning. Lost 2 lbs. It is starting now. I have been under a tremendous amount of stress lately and I think that might be contributing to the initial stall. This is not my first time around the block with this diet, so I know what I am supposed to do. In April of this year, a tornado came through our town and we lost out house. Now we live in a much smaller one until we can find a new place. It is hard to get to the old treadmill and I am babysitting my baby granddaughter. It has also been raining non-stop! Anyway, other than that, everything will be fine. Trying some self hypnosis CD's that my syster gave me and see if that will help too. At least the DH is doing this with me. He is a good man.

It's wonderful that your hub is doing it with you - mine too. It definitely helps!

Not sure if anyone else mentioned above, but be sure to measure yourself! Those times when the weight doesn't seem to be going down, the inches will be!

Good luck to you, I look forward to your future posts.

              Re: Newbie

You should be using unsweetened whipped cream in your coffee - not half & half....it's half milk, which isn't on the acceptable food list.

              Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat 10 to 20 olives, half a small avocado, an ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.

              Acceptable Beverages
Be sure to drink a minimum of eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day, including:

              Filtered water
              Mineral water
              Spring water
              Tap water
Additionally, you can have the following:

Clear broth/bouillon (not all brands; read the label)
              Club soda
Cream, heavy or light (limit to two to three tablespoons a day; note carbohydrate content)
              Decaffeinated coffee or tea*
Diet soda made with sucralose (Splenda); be sure to count the carbs
Essence-flavored seltzer (must say "no calories" and should not contain aspartame)
Herb tea (without barley or any fruit sugar added)
Lemon juice or lime juice (note that each contains 2.8 grams carbohydrate per ounce); limit to two to three tablespoons
*Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine.

Also, according to what you posted you are only eating vegetables with your evening meal - it's best to spread your vegetables through the day to keep from having blood sugar spikes. Also, Vienna Sausages, are a processed food so make sure you check the nutrition label and know exactly what you are eating....check for other names for sugar in the nutrition label.

              Good luck to you.

I find that drinking any diet soda slows my lost to zilch. Within a day of stopping the scales begin to move. Just a thought.

As of today (day 7), I have lost 4 lbs. Guess I just needed a little patience. Now that my grandbaby has went home, I will be getting on the treadmill. Got me a couple of books and a tv in front of it and I am good to go. Actually looking forward to it now that the weather is getting cold.
I am finding that I now eat because I have to, not because I am hungry No cravings for sweets or bread. Good. Onto my 2nd week.

                    Re: Newbie

How is your vegetable intake doing? Raising that to the proper levels will help you lose. Also drink your water--it helps a lot! You are right about stress. It not only makes you want to cheat, ;( but it can also cause your body to hunker down and refuse to give it up for the scale.
