Hi, I'm Harry and I've decided (today) to go on a diet and loose some weight. I'm trying to loose about10-15 lbs so I can fit into the many clothes I have with a 34 waist. Right now my waist size is 36-38. This may be the wrong time to start this since Thanksgiving is only about a week away, but what the heck, I'll try it anyway. I'm 6'3" tall and weigh 210 lbs, maybe a little under. My ideal weight should be 195 max. Anyway, next I'm going to try to figure out how this whole thing works. I guess I'll have to do a profile first.

Re: First time for everything
Welcome to the Atkins Board.
Glad you found the board and are excited about staring. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime. You don't have much to loose so once you get through 2 weeks of induction you should move on to OWL (ongoing weight loss) and go slowly through the Rungs - adding foods back and finding which ones you will be able to eat and keep weight off and which ones you won't be able to. Once you learn how to eat this way you will wonder why you didn't start long before now. A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.
Thanksgiving is a great time to start....we are having turkey, green bean casserole (I'm making the cream of mushroom soup so it's "legal"), deviled eggs, salad, and mashed turnips. I'll have pumpkin dessert with real whipped cream (not from a can or a tub - real cream). This is pretty much the way I eat everyday - I don't feel I'm missing anything.
Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. Good luck to you!
