    Welcome!

Don't stay on Induction too long!!!!

Most of your weight should be lost during OWL.

      Re: hello

Hi locarbgirl, welcome. I agree with J. Many people think you lose faster by staying on Induction. That is not true. You will lose just as well on OWL unless your critical carb level is unusually low. And it teaches you how and when to add carbs back into your life.

Is one of the books you have the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR)?? That's the only book we follow here.

Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime, staying on induction too long is counter productive - many people, including myself stopped loosing on induction but once we moved to OWL started loosing again. You don't have your statistics posted, how much do you have to loose?

A few tips: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.

Eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables and make sure you are eating a variety of things on the list...eating a few things over and over will make it hard to stay on the plan for long. Good luck to you!

              Re: hello

              Just to clarify things here...

The book we go by at ADBB is indeed Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002). What this means is that the advice everyone is being given is based on the plan described in this book.

It is fine if one chooses to use other books (for herself). But, for example, there is no reason (imo) to use a book from say, 1992 when a new edition of it was published in 2002. As for the cookbooks, the description of the plan in the cookbooks is not as thorough as that in DANDR (1992, 1999 or 2002), so you might be missing on information.

I believe the best thing one can do for herself is get/read a copy of DANDR 2002. But other than that, everyone is welcome to post at ADBB, whether they haven't read the book yet, use DANDR 1992, the cookbooks or whatever other book.

For those who haven't stumbled upon the FAQ Forum yet, this is the ADBB Mission Statement:
The mission of the Atkins Diet Bulletin Board (ADBB) is to make a positive difference in the lives of those who have adopted the controlled carbohydrate lifestyle by providing information and support through a world leading international weight loss and open discussion forum, and by creating a nurturing educational environment that fosters effective communication and maximizes the potential of each member to achieve lifelong weight-loss and health.

Our underlying values are founded on the Atkins approach to weight loss from the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 DANDR), which we believe to be the safest and most nutritionally efficient method in existence.

Our guiding principles are to operate under the "Hard on ideas. Soft on people" philosophy, foster an international community open to anyone and welcoming of new ideas, be run by volunteers, and provide services free to our membership.
"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."
