  • 3rd time's the charm

Hi, I'm Kim. I have been on Atkins twice before. The first time was about 3 years ago, before I got pregnant with my daughter. I had lost 20-30 lbs. and was feeling great, then my husband and I decided it was time to start a family. Dr. Atkins says his plan is not safe for pregnant or nursing women, so it went out the window. 9 months later I gave birth to a healthy little girl.

The second time was about a month after my daughter was born. I was unable to nurse, so I thought I would just get right back into the swing of things. It was a half-hearted attempt to say the least. I would eat a low carb breakfast, and then have pizza delivered, LOL. Plus I drank TONS of diet sodas and other diet drinks. Needless to say, I didn't lose any weight, so I quit completely.

So, this is my third time. I started Saturday, 11/14/09 and I plan on sticking with it full-force.

    Welcome!

    >>Dr. Atkins says his plan is not safe for pregnant or nursing women>>

What's not "safe" is any of the weight loss phases, because of ketosis.

However, you could have done the maintenance phase of Atkins.

That's in the past however ...

Get out your copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002) and read away!

      Welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz minimum is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!
