    Hello everyone!

I restarted Atkins Induction on 9-22-09. Years ago I did this and lost quite a bit. I have regained about 50+ pounds and desperately want to get it off. I'm 61 and am recovering from surgery, so my exercise has been limited to walking in short periods of 10 minutes at a time several times a day.

I lost 10 pounds on induction. Then nothing for a couple of weeks. Got impatient and tried replacing two meals a day with shakes. Well, it did work temporarily and I lost another 4 pounds quickly, but then everything stopped again. (of course it did -- I wasn't following the plan!)

I wanted to join this board because it adheres more to Dr. Atkins book and I am ready to quit my impatience and really, really stick to the plan as it was written. The Atkins Website board is almost unrecognizable as far as what I think is written in the 2002 Atkins book. There are rules talked about that I can't find anywhere in the book. I want to go back and do the plan as I did when I was in my 30s and lost so much weight.

Sorry this was so long. I really just meant to introduce myself, but got carried away with blabbing.

I want to start fresh today. Even though I have kept my carbs at induction levels since the beginning, I am thinking it is better to start a new two-week Induction period. And then hopefully I can move on to OWL. When I lost the weight before I never moved out of Induction because I was afraid I would quit losing. I really want to do this right this time.

    Thanks for "listening".

    Welcome meeme
I hope you will like it here. We do follow the DANDR of 2002. And our mission is to help to follow people who wants to do that plan. It is what we did and it worked for us.

Fresh start sounds good. Just have reasonable expectations. Induction will not make you lose a lot since you are already low carbing. But use it to clean things up and use only veggies for your carb foods and whole foods without chemicals. Drink clean water. Enjoy life.

    Glad to have you here.

          Thanks for the Welcomes!!

Thanks for making me feel welcome. I truly do want to do this by the book. My problem is remembering what I have read. I think where I messed up is buying the NEW Atkins Advantage book. It had been so many years since I read the original Atkins book, that these two have just blurred together. Combine that with reading so much over the past three months on all of the different low carb boards where "advice" is just all over the map!

So, over the weekend my plan is to re-read DANDR 2002, get my meal plans down, go to the grocery store, open a new fitday account and START ALL OVER!

          Wish me luck

            Re: Another Newbie

Yes I know what you mean. It can be blurred together easily. But it is probably best to follow one plan and stick to it. So your plan is a good one. We also have some stickies in the FAQ forum that are handy. But they are really pretty much straight from the book.
The problem with mixing and getting a bit lax is that bad habits creep up. Doing Atkins induction strictly is very cleansing

              Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime - the weigh won't "fall off" overnight, it takes work and persevere to get to your goal. Once you learn how to eat this way you will wonder why you didn't start long before now. A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.

Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]) - I got a new copy a few weeks ago at www.half
.com and paid $1.05 including shipping (I bought one that said "used" but it had never been opened), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables.
