  • Help!

    Hiya,

I have alway been a fan of the Atkins and had great success with this a few years ago. After having my baby daughter nearly 12 months ago, I have had real trouble trying to los the last 8 pounds. I have been on the atkins diet for the last 5 days, the ketose sticks are purple and yet to my horror I have gained two pounds?
My diet has been eggs, scambled for breakfast, a couple of onz of cheese throught out the day, lunch to be chicken breast, dinner to be fish or prawn cocktail, I have had cream in my coffee, although measured the amount and had been using 2 sweetener( sweetex) in each coffee( prob 5 coffees per day?

    Re: Help!

Where are your vegetables? Atkins isn't just protein, you should strive for 65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs. Purple on the sticks can mean you are dehydrated...you don't mention how much pure water you are drinking but you are drinking too much coffee and too many sweetners - 3 packets daily are the maximum and 3 creams a day.

As far as gaining 2 pounds, are you close to TOM? Many ladies gain up to 10 pounds around their time of the month. Also, since you are working on only a few pounds you should go through the 2 weeks of induction and move to OWL (ongoing weight loss) and start adding back foods so you'll know which ones bother you and which you can eat without any problems. Also, Atkins isn't a "diet" or a "quick fix" it's a lifestyle.

Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. Good luck to you!

      Re: Help!

Well, cheese is limited to about 4oz. Cream is limited too but I'm not sure to what. Caffeine stalls some people. Some sweeteners stall people. Allowed ones are limited to three per day. I don't see any veggies but you should be eating some. Three cups worth a day, two of salad veggies and one from the other list. I'll dig up a link. http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tion-faqs.html
Read these links and look over the information. The food lists can be lifesaver.
On this board they are going by the 2002 DANDR. Later book additions included franken foods and stuff that stalls some people. Sticking to real foods helps most people.
You could also checkout OWL as you don't have much to loose.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

      1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
      2nd mini goal: 140!
      3rd mini goal:135!
      4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

        Re: Help!

10 sweetners a day - probably is your main problem here.
This is a not sweet diet
I prefer doing induction without any but you can have three servings a day unless you are sweet sensitive and then they will stall you.
Eat your vegetables - 3 cups of them
Drink plain water - loads of it

            Welcome!

I have had real trouble trying to los the last 8 pounds.
With 8 lbs to lose, it is not necessary to start in Induction. You can start in OWL and move from there.

Alternatively, you can follow the guidelines in Atkins for Life. This book is intended for those who have only a few pounds to lose.

And as the others have said, Atkins is not a meat, eggs & cheese diet!

              Re: Help!

Cindi, in the second link you have provided you wrote:
Net Carbs are based on a serving size of 1/4pound = 4oz = 1/2cup of the raw vegetable
This is not correct. 1/4 lbs of some raw vegetable is not 1/2 cup! Think lettuce, for example; 4 oz of lettuce will certainly not fit in 1/2 cup.

The list from How Many Carbs Are in Vegetables? | A Veggie Venture is based on 1/4 pound of raw vegetable. That's all. No cups.

And avocado, although listed as a vegetable on that list, is not a vegetable, but a fruit. In Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002), it is listed as a Special Category food and limited to 1/2 a small one per day.

                Re: Help!

Thanks guys for all your replies.

I think I was looking at a quick fix and now realize that this is something that i NEED TO CHANGE FOR LIFE.
The changes that I have made is:
having 6 galsses of water per day
reduced down to 3 coffees and no sweetner
                12 gram of veg

I have lost 2 pounds and it seems to be very slow... is this normal?

                  >> having 6 galsses of water per day>>

The MINIMUM is 64 ounces ... so depending on the size of your glass, 6 glasses may not be enough.

                  >> 12 gram of veg>>

I presume you mean "net carbs" ... and not grams by weight!

                  >> I have lost 2 pounds and it seems to be very slow... is this normal?>>

There is no normal ... there is only what your body does.

                    Re: Help!

Yes, that is actually a very good loss for someone so close to goal. But as Georgina said you might want to move up to Ongoing Weight Loss so that you learn how to maintain the loss while losing those last 6 pounds slowly. And, be prepared---even if you get back to your pre-baby weight you are not going to look exactly like your old self. The muscles may not be as tight and you may be slightly saggier. That's where strengthening exercise comes in. You need to firm those areas up. Pilates, weights, ab bootcamp will all help with that.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
