  • Second Time Around Begins Tomorrow

    Hi, I am re starting Atkins on Monday. That is the day I gave myself to start fresh.

    I did low carb years ago and lost a lot of weight; looked great; then thought I could just do whatever ... well you know how that goes .... weight gain.

    Then I decided to try Weight Watchers ... lost 40 lbs ... then struggled with keeping it off. I was soooo hungry all the time.

    I can't keep up this weight gain; I now weigh more than I ever have and am wearing a size I have NEVER worn and am disgusted with myself.

    We just went on vacation and am still on ... so Monday is my first day re inducting. You will probably see so much of me on here you will get tired of me LOL!!!

        Hello and welcome! I hope you find it far easier to lose - and maintain - with this WoE/WoL, it sure sounds like you're ready for a major change!

        So, what do you have planned for your meals tomorrow?

          Depends on if I work tomorrow or not .... we have a very low census on the hospital floor I work at:

          Breakfast will be an omelet loaded with veggies, turkey ham and a little cheese

          Lunch will be a salad with chicken breast and blue cheese dressing

          Dinner will be my most favorite dish of all, hamburger sauteed with onions, cabbage and some sesame oil. LOVE this dish.

          Drinking: LOTS OF WATER and a serving of either Crystal Light Lemonade or some unsweetened iced tea.

            That sounds great - the only thing that I'd raise an eyebrow at is the dressing. If you're not making it yourself, some commercial dressings do contain sugar.

              It would be the Newman's Own packet ... but I might just forego and use oil and vinegar instead.

                I *love* Newman's Own dressings! Check the packet for ingredients; some dressings have sugar, some don't. NO's Olive Oil & Vinegar dressing doesn't list sugar but does have 1g of carb from sugars - from the lemon juice, perhaps. That dressing would be allowable on Induction.

                Would you be able to make your own dressing and store it in a fridge at work? My favorite dressing is a very basic Greek: 3 parts olive oil, 1 part lemon juice, salt/pepper/oregano to taste.

                  That sounds good. I was just going to use oil and vinegar out of the jars ... not NO's ... but I may just make yours. Sounds yummy. Very yummy.

                    That's probably not your best choice ... read the list of ingredients.

                    The packet is generally not the same as the bottled.

                      Welcome to the Atkins Board.

                      Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime. Once you learn how to eat this way you will wonder why you didn't start long before now. A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.


                      I use Hidden Valley Ranch dressing and don't have any problems with it....it depends on your system - but there is such a small amount you may be able to get away with using it. What I find very helpful is to put the dressing in a small bowl on the side of my salad and dip the salad into the dressing....I use far less than when I use to pour the dressing on top of my salad. Most times I can eat a salad and use 1 Tablespoon of dressing. You might try something like that.

                      Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables.

                          MORE WATER .... LOTS OF WATER

                          Try to do a 15 minute walk around the perimeter of the hospital (had 2 foot surgeries since June so walking isn't that easy).

                              Really good start

                              A couple of pointers. If you follow Atkins list of veggies - cabbage is a one cup veggie.
                              Spicy pork rinds may have sugars (unless you spiced them yourselves) - they do have carbs very often.
