Hello everyone, I am a 65 y.o. 5'9"male living in new England. My first time on the diet, in 2002, I went from 226 to about 211, in 2 months. Thereafter I followed a generally low(er) carb diet. I'm back on it, down to 209 (probably about 215, if I had some carb in me). I'm interested in both the practical aspects of low-carb diets, and the science of them. And secondarily in the hysteria that low-carb diets seem to induce in nutritionists and others. ---------------- And once again I see that I have not been able to figure out how to break up a big block of text into paragraphs! I typed this message into the message box, with a carriage return after the second sentence, and I see it has disapeared.

Re: Introducing myself
My question would be, have you found an honest man Diogenes? I'm new here myself, my second time on the diet, the first time I lost around 40 lbs, this time I have just finished my second week of induction.
I'm sure someone will come along and say something meaningful shortly. I just wanted to say welcome!male/35/295/250/175? Weight loss is no longer my primary goal. Getting to the point where I no longer feel like h-e-doublehockeysticks is!

Re: Introducing myself
Welcome to the Atkins Board.
Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" it's a way of eating over a lifetime. Once you learn how to eat this way you will wonder why you didn't start long before now. A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot.
Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. Good luck to you!
