  • Help

My husband and I started Atkins at the end of August. We have not cheated but have only lost 12-15 pounds each. (these pounds were lost in the first 6 weeks) We did Atkins very successfully when we were in our late 20's, however over the years the pounds crept back on. Our ages are 49 & 52 - both of us would like to lose 50 pounds.

We are keeping our carbs to around 20, calories are 1800 to 2000. The ketosis sticks are from a trace to moderate. Each drink 1 cup of coffee per day and 1-2 diet sodas.

Does anyone have any ideas that will get the scale moving down?

    Appreciate your help.

    Re: Help

First of all, don't compare your weight loss 20+ years ago with your weight loss now. You can't expect the same results.

We are keeping our carbs to around 20, calories are 1800 to 2000.
    Are you counting net carbs?

What are your stats (height and current weight)?

Staying too long in Induction stalls/slows down some people.

The ketosis sticks are from a trace to moderate.
If you follow the plan correctly, the color on the sticks does not matter. It is not an indicator or guarantee of weight loss.

Each drink 1 cup of coffee per day and 1-2 diet sodas.
Sweeteners are limited to 3 per day. 8 oz of diet soda are 1 serving of sweetener. And if you're using sweetener in your coffee, you should count that one too.

Also, some people are stalled by diet sodas.

Does anyone have any ideas that will get the scale moving down?
If you want to post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs for every food, we can take a look.

    Are you exercising?

I'm confused. Are you doing Induction?

What's "creams"? Creamer? That's not allowed. You should use real cream (heavy or light).

          Lunch - 8 oz chicken - 538 cal 0 carbs
It's better to add some veggies for lunch, instead of eating only chicken.

          Snack - 18 cashews - 165 cal 8.6 carbs
Not allowed before OWL Rung 3.

          1/2 cup beans 41 cal 5.3 carbs
Not allowed before OWL Rung 6.

          Soda - 4 sweetners
As I've said, this is too much.

Too much protein and not enough fat there. Overeating protein can interfere with weight loss.

Most of your carbs should come from Induction vegetables. Atkins is not only about keeping your carbs below X g per day. You need to eat the right foods too.

            Good for him!

            I am not
            Any reason for this?

Dr. Atkins told us that exercise is mandatory if we want to follow his plan.

We wanted to see if exercise was really necessary. If he started losing (he has been exercising for about 1 month) I would jump in.

But 1/2 cup of green beans don't have 5.3 net carbs.

Did you add some other carby ingredients to them?

It is. Not only for weight loss, but for your overall health too.

Regardless of whether your husband loses faster or not with exercise, it does not mean your body will react the same.

It is probably the nuts. sweeteners and exercise. We will go back to the drawing board and see what happens. Thank you for your advise.

                            Yes, what you've just said.

                            You're welcome!

Also, add more vegetables. 1/2 cup of green beans is really not enough.
