Thanks, J. for the perspective. And for the links and cookbook suggestion. I am definitely checking them out. (I accidently skimmed past the links in your first post because I was so excited about being here--yes I tend to be like a kid in a candy store when I find a great resource.)

Our frozen vegie section in our local grocery store is about half an isle (that's two sets of double glass doors), so choices are rather slim--no pun intended. and the next biggest store is thirty minutes into the next town. But if I find brand names I can get ask my local manager to order them for me. For some reason, Bird's Eye Brussel Sprouts are always available. Someone else in town must like them, too.

Hmm. Thinking of Atkins as being more about the vegetables is a new perspective for me. I've been thinking it's all about the meat and no white stuff ie bread and noodles and potatos.

Then when you to into the next town ... buy in bulk!

Time to reread the book then!

Mindset is something I'm definitely going to work on. Great suggestion about the list. I'm such a list-maker and you've given me an excellent start. I'm also adding ginger to my shopping list.

And I found a yummy recipe form the links Atkinsgal08 posted that I'm printing out for tomorrow's supper, too.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what people are doing now, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

It sounds like you need to re-read the 2002 DANDR book. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz minimum is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin. The new month's challenges are starting in a few days, check them to find some that will interest you and join in.

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.

Thanks Carole, for the links. I didin't know about the second time around club. And it does seem that I need to re-read the book. I think that's one of the things I didn't do right the first time. I focused on the 'can't haves' instead of the 'can haves'.

Absolutely do that! Also, since there is more to this way of life than Induction vegetables, meat and dairy, start acknowledging that plenty of other foods aren't forbidden, they are merely added later in the plan. Instead of saying, "can't have"...start saying, "will add back in Rung ___".

Linda has some great soup recipes. My favorite is Pumpkin and sausage, it sounds weird but tastes fabulous! Country Cabbage soup is good too!
Just ate some brussel sprouts from a steamer bag w/ my egg omelet for lunch. I've having trouble finding the vegies w/out cream sauce or w/out potatoes or some other, not-on-my-list foods. I live outside of a teeny-tiny town w/ a modest-sized Brookshires grocery store. They will special order anything I want, but I don't know what to ask for. Got any suggestions? Brands I should ask for?
I primarily shop at Aldi, but I know if you can't find the steamer bags just look in the freezer section for those bagged veggies. I like California Medley, Prince Edward Island Medley or broccoli cuts. I pop it in some boiling water for 5 min. Voila!
Need to look for the fish and chicken, too. Are you talking about the individual frozen stuff? (Not precooked, right? The pre-cooked meat seems to all be breaded) I didn't know you could just pop it in the oven. I've always thought I had to thaw it first. At what temperature?

I shop Aldi so I'm not sure what brands to tell you, I LOVE to buy the grilled fish in a box with Lemon Pepper, or Garlic Butter already in the individual bag. I take the frozen fish pop it on cookie sheet and cook at 450 degrees for 18 min. SO EASY! Next time I'm in a regular store I will look for brands. Chicken you may want to thaw first but you don't have to, chicken legs taste great at 400 degrees for 45 min.

I'm thinking of saving my salad choices for supper/restaurant choices, especially on weekends when we eat out more often. Eating salads at restaurants seems to be easier on the group I'm w/. Otherwise I have to veto all their fave eating places, which is not a fun thing to do when eating w/ other couples. How long do those bags of salads last? If I bought some and didn't eat it right away, that could be an option.

The salad depends on the sell by date and the type of lettuce. I find that if you are very careful with the bag that it really lengthens the life. I treat my bags of lettuce like a fine piece of china, it really does help! I can usually eat lettuce a day or two past the sell by date. Reach in the back at the store and you can usually get a fresher bag.

farmwife, being a writer has been my dream job, too! I have loved every second of it!

That's great to hear! I'm going to put your book on my wish list!

And I LOVE this forum. So many good ideas and so much enthusiasm! Many thanks and please keep it coming.
                      Hope this helps you!

                        Hi Liv
Thanks so much for asking! Yesterday (only a day in) was tough. Got up late and skipped breakfast to get to church on time. Lunch was hamburger patties and spinach, Advil and a diet Coke because I had a hunger headache. (Two hamburger patties, btw, because I was starving.)

Then I had to make cupcakes for the church Advent season kickoff potluck supper. I didn't eat the cupcakes (small victory there) but I did lick the icing spatula after I was done. Just a little, though.

At the potluck supper, I stuck to turkey (which was very dry), a piece of ham which is not on the list, is it? green beans and coleslaw. And then, becuase I had resisted so much tempation, passing up the dressing and turkey tetrazinni and all the other yummy, rich foods, I had two tablespoons of pistachio pudding and marshmallow salad. It could have been worse. But then, it could have been better. Better planning next time, I think.

Today, I go in for bloodwork, so delayed breakfast this morning. And I am such a breakfast eater--- Then back to make a list using some of the recipes I've found. Determined to force myself to cook and freeze stuff so I'll be better prepared from now on.

Yum, farmwife. Pumpkin sausage soup does sound strangely delicious. And great info on the frozen chicken legs. Also, thanks for putting my book on your wishlist. It's called Taking Flight, written under my real name, Connie Cox. Most libraries have it or can get it. Let me know what you think of it

Theoretically, ham is fine; practically, it might have quite a bit of sugar in it. When you buy ham yourself, make sure you read the ingredients and check the carbs.

                            coleslaw.
Coleslaw is tricky. Unless you know the ingredients, there could be sugar in it.

And, as you know, rewarding yourself with food for "resisting temptation" does nothing but delay giving in to another temptation.

Well Connie - There were some ups and downs that day. Maybe you'll get a B minus.
So you have a sweeth tooth - using foods as reward? Yes. I know the feeling and pattern. Time to break it, honey. It will just lead to more pounds.
So hopefully you can have a good breakfast - it is a key. Eat plenty of legal stuff the first days and do not worry about amounts - just fill 'er up.

You're right, Georgiana. And it tasted good, but not as good as I thought it would.

I'm setting aside some time tomorrow to re-read the book, cover to cover. The things I thought I remembered, I'm not so sure of. I've already discovered that I have to make sure I don't get too hungry. I'm really a bear to be around when hungry. (I don't even like myself then.)

This is not the easiest time of year to start this, but I really didn't want to step on the scale in Jan and see that I've added Christmas pounds, too.
