  • Hi Everyone x

Hi to everyone out there. My name is Elaine and I have been on the Atkins diet for 3 days now. I have 2 girls one aged 19 and one 7 (Mia & Chloe). We live in Milton Keynes UK. I have found it a bit tricky but it's getting easier as I am getting used to the stuff that i'm allowed to eat (or easier to remember the stuff I can't !!!!!) I have a terrible sweet tooth and have done all of my life, but I am quite proud of myself ! It's not easy watching your kids toasting marshmallows on the fire (Little darlings!) but I cope. I am just hoping that this is going to work ?
Any ideas of how to get the optimum results would be great.
Best Wishes to you all x

Read the book and follow the guidelines there. Then it will "work".

And remember it's not a race. Don't expect to lose X lbs in Y weeks... it might not happen and you are only setting yourself up for disappointment.

Weight loss is only one of the four principles behind Atkins... the other three being weight maintenance, good health and disease prevention.

Thanks Georgiana, Yes i am beginning to realise the benefits. I am on day 4 and I already feel lighter and my hips don't seem to hurt like they usually do. I have abused my body for so long as I have a terribly sweet tooth and always have had, now i feel like I am rewarding it at last. I'm not going to expect too much, but it's hard. I have never dieted before but with hypothyroidism aswell the weight was gaining fast and I could feel it. It was taking it's toll on me. I have already lost 6 lbs

              Welcome to the ADBB, Elaine!

Just be patient and accept that this is how you will eat for the rest of your life simply because it's the best plan there is for weight control and health. It will set a good example for the kids too so that they don't inherit your sweet tooth.

I hope to see you around a lot.

                Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" or a way to loose "a few pounds"...it's a way of eating over a lifetime. Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal (2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution [DANDR]), eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

You don't have much weight to loose so once you are done with the 2 week induction move on to OWL (ongoing weight loss) and start adding foods back into your daily routine - you need enough time to find the foods that don't bother you and ones that you'll need to keep away from in the future.

A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

                Good luck to you!
