  • Hi All!

    Hello everyone.
My name is Christie. I am new here. I have struggled all my life with my weight and I have also tried lots of different diets, the weight just came back. I am currently reading the 'Dr. Atkins NEW Diet Revolution' and I will be starting it in 9 days. It will be hard for me at first because I am a carb addict; I would rather have pasta over anything else and that is why I am starting Atkins, because my problem is carbs. I also want to wish everyone Good Luck on any goals that they have. Hope you all have a great day!

    -Christie

      Re: Hi All!

I would start right now! Why wait!

Let me tell you, this is the only 'diet' that has ever worked! Although I hate calling it a 'diet' as it is now my WAY OF EATING. I LOVE it, if you crave carbs all the time then this is just what you need.

There is an interesting book called "Against the Grain", it talks about how grain/carbs are not good for a lot of people. Very interesting!

Hi Atkinsgal08 and Thank you for the welcome. :]
I am starting in 9 days because I will get paid then and will be going grocery shopping. I am also reading the book and haven't got to the introduction part yet but I will probably be to that part way before 9 days. It's also to prepare myself, and to give me time to check in with my doctor also.

          Re: Hi All!

          Sounds good.

Just don't use these 9 days to "pig out"! If you start getting rid of the junk food now, Induction will be "easier".

Hi farmwife! Wow you guys are getting me anxious!! =D I really wish I could start tomorrow but I don't have money right now for food and things (I spent all of last weeks check on Thanksgiving dinner, lol). I am getting really excited though!! I will also look for Against the Grain, it sounds very interesting! Thanks for the welcome. :]

Okay! Thanks for the tip!! I am also going to use this time to explain to my husband and some of my family what I will be doing and try to encourage them to start with me too.

Hi Christie and welcome. The first week is the toughest and you are likely to have a couple of rough days as you actually go through withdrawal but I guarantee that after the first week is through you will be feeling energetic and better than you have in a long time. It does take some retraining the brain but commit to this lifestyle and you will be rewarded. Also it need not be ridiculously expensive either. Chicken, tuna, and ground beef are my staples, and although fresh veggies cost a bit more I am also saving on a lot of junk that I no longer eat. And my body is much much healthier.

Hi , I'm sure that you will be fine.. I have been terrible with sugar for the last 40 years I just love it. But it's getting easier every day. Just tell yourself how much better about yourself you are going to feel. Not just on the outside but the inside too! I have been on the Atkins for 6 days and I feel so much better already. Just stick to it and keep optimistic ! Good Luck

                      Re: Hi All!

                      Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. First of all, Atkins is not a "diet" or a way to loose "a few pounds"...it's a way of eating over a lifetime. When you get ready to start just do it -- don't try it out for a few days...make a menu of what you'll eat for your first 3 or 4 days so all the food will be in your house and you'll know exactly what the next meal is - it will keep you from getting off track.

A few tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

                      Good luck to you!

Hi chinadoll! Thank you for the welcome! I have read about the withdrawal symptoms and have been wondering if I will be going through that. I most likely will, but no matter what I gotta stick through this. I know what you mean about the expensive thing, it is a tough economy right now too. "That is gonna be expensive!"..That is the first thing my DH said to me when I told him what I was going to be eating. I am mostly going to stick with Chicken and tuna also and some ground beef every other week. We have some produce stands/markets around here that sell fresh vegetables kinda cheap so that is a plus! Thank you again for the welcome!
