  • Second Time Around but NEW to the forums

    Hello all,

I just wanted to introduce myself, and ask for some support. This is my second time starting Induction phase of Atkins. I started originally in October and lost 12 pounds. Unfortunately, on Thanksgiving I allowed my cravings to get the best of me and I gained all 12 pounds back in a matter of 4 days. I wanted ask a few questions to those how have repeatedly tried this diet and fell off:

Might it take long to enter Ketosis if I have previously attempted Atkins?

Might it take longer to see weight loss the second time around?

Are there any suggestions for second timers?

There is no proof for this, as far as I am aware. Don't go by Ketostix. They are not reliable.

It is true though that one's resistance to weight loss is increased by yo-yo dieting.

Do not expect to lose weight at exactly the same rate you lost a month or so ago. You might lose slower... or faster. Don't "schedule" your weight loss.

Are there any suggestions for second timers?
Understand why you failed the first time. Was it bad planning? Were you only seeing Atkins only as a "tool" to lose weight? Once you know what caused you to "go off" Atkins, you'll be able to prevent it from happening again.

      Welcome to the ADBB, missLon!

Don't let that slip-up discourage you from getting back on plan. Instead use what you're learned to help get you through Christmas. Ask yourself it you 'really' enjoyed the carbs and if it was worth it to gain back all you had lost. You will probably find that you regret the fall more than you enjoyed the food. So just keep that in mind next time and you will be very proud of yourself at the New Year.

I'm glad you came back to Atkins!

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before, or what you read other people are doing here, your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it, it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase. Get enough pure water in daily (64oz minimum is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin. Try making a menu of everything you'll eat the first 3 or 4 days, make sure those foods are in your house and don't deviate from it....planning is key with Atkins!

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

Re: Second Time Around but NEW to the forums

One of the biggest reasons people fail the first time is because they are too focused on the results (or in their minds the lack of results) and not enough on the process. If you want to succeed this time, don't focus on the scale. Focus on doing the plan to the best of your ability, drinking your water, and exercising. Shoot for perfect days on plan. Then weigh once a week or once every other week. The process is the education and the key. The results then take care of themselves.

          GOAL TWO 213 (personal goal)
          GOAL THREE 199 ONE-DERLAND
          FINAL GOAL 165

It's not about the results. Its about the process.
