  • 2.5 weeks in

    Hello All !!
My husband and I put on baby weight together,. We just had a baby 3 months ago. We started adkins 2 wks ago. I have lost 3 inches in the last 2.5 weeks, but not as much weight? Can someone explain why u lose inches first? It's making me frustrated. Meanwhile my husband lost 10 lbs !! Well wish us luck !

    Welcome!

The scale weighs everything: fat, muscle, bones, fluids, etc. So changes in the number on the scale are not a good indicator of fat loss (which is the loss you should care about). Inches are better. Who cares how many pounds the scale shows as long as you fit in smaller clothes!

    Congratulations on getting smaller!

Also... you are not breastfeeding, are you?

Oh don't get me wrong, I am not complaining ! But I want to get down to the 150's and it seems like it's going to take forever. But they say 9months on 9months off. Of course I am not breastfeeding. That wouldn't work at all. I was just wondering why my husband seems to be shedding off pounds but I am not. Maybe just his metabolism is different. Thanks for the quick reply !

        >>I was just wondering why my husband seems to be shedding off pounds but I am not>>

        Because he's a man.

        He has more testosterone.

        Men generally lose faster.

And he didn't give birth 3 months ago.

And ... it's always best not to compare yourself with anyone else.

You don't have that much to loose to get to your goal weight so it probably won't "fall off" like with your husband's weight.

Remember, Atkins is more than just induction, there are several parts - since you are 2-1/2 weeks in you should move to OWL and start adding foods back so you'll know which ones you can eat without incident and which ones give you problems.

Rung 1 is an additional 5 net carbs of vegetables - most people continue to loose weight by adding these veggies back into your daily life. Loosing your weight shouldn't be a race to get to the number you want...it's loosing pounds, inches and most importantly, getting healthy again.

How much water are you drinking daily? What type of exercise are you doing? Are you taking non-iron supplements? Good luck.

Congratulations on your baby and your current weight reduction.

One of the keys to succeeding on Atkins is knowing that it didn't take you overnight to gain weight, so one shouldn't expect to magically fall off, either. I'm sure you're aware of such a saying, however, if helps when you're minded. I'm not sure how much weight you need to lose, but even if you lost 2 lbs a week, that's 40 lbs in 5 months. You carried a baby for 9, what is 5 months?

Anyhow, just think of it this way, look how fast Christmas got here! Huh? Wow... Before you know it, it'll be Christmas 2010! So just imagine how fast time has gone by... now if you put it into a productive perspective and think about how much weight you could lose during this time while doing Atkins, I'll guarantee you the time will probably go a lot slower! LOL. Good luck on your journey.

Thank you for the boost ! I am not exercising. I hate hate hate to work out. I am drinking water and taking multi-vi. I have a Christmas party to go to on the 18th for my husbands work. I want to look amazing. The last time I saw all these people I was a 9month 210lb big momma. So of course I want that amazing dress. So 15 more days to go. I hope I can lose a little more .!

You won't look amazing without working out. And it becomes more necessary with each passing year. But the plus side is that when that party rolls around, wouldn't you rather have the inches gone than the pounds? It is the inches that will make you look better in that holiday dress.
