  • Hello...

My name is Jason and after many false starts , I have decided to lose my huge gut for good. Right now I am 233, but plan on getting down to around 175 (but actually weight has never been important to me- when I get my "six-pack" I typically know I am "there." )

My weight has actually been somewhat of a yo-yo for most of my adult life. When I was 25(1994), I weighed about what I weigh now, and decided to lose weight to impress a girl. Okay, it was a bad reason, but I was young, it was motivation, and it did work. Within three months I went from where I am now to having the ol' washboard gut.

Around 5 years ago, I tried Atkins again and it once again worked wonders for me (I lost 30 pounds in 30 days).

    Fast forward to today...

I am determined to lose the weight and keep it off this time for good. I am confident that I can make it happen.

A few more notes about myself, so those who see my posts might understand me better...

    • I am not very interested in weight lose as much as fat loss, although I tend to lose weight rather quickly.
    • I believe in exercising very vigorously when I am trying to loss fat- weights 3 times a week and cardio 5 times a week. I may skip cardio, but never skip lifting weights- because more muscle = more fat loss.
    • I've done the diet enough times to know it inside and out, but I am probably not as much of a "purist" as many of you might be. I tend to not keep track of the number of carbs when in induction, but I know that 99% of the time, I have stayed below 20g's a day because it is almost "instinct" to me.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Regardless of what you did before your body is different now so it’s best not to compare with "before" - just follow the plan the way it's written. Look around and find what interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it , it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase (check www.half.com for an inexpensive copy). Get enough pure water in daily (64oz minimum is recommended), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin.

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

      Re: Hello...

Hi Jason, I agree with you on the lifting. I am currently doing Lou Schuler's New RUles of Lifting for Women and it is kicking my butt. You might want to check out the Exercise Challenges thread for Strength and Stretch and Toning. Liv hosts that one. You would be an inspiration and I like trading lifting info. Welcome to ADBB!

I hope this will be your last time and you'll successfully make Atkins your way of eating for life!

        I have stayed below 20g's a day
Make sure those are net carbs, not total carbs.

Eating close to 20 net carbs, with the majority of them from vegetables, will give you better nutrition.
