  • Newbie on here :)

Hi everyone, just joined this community a few minutes ago. I started on Atkins 3 days ago, and even though it took me 2 days to find the best combination of food, I think I am now finally on my way.

I hope to be able to get rid off my 'pregnancy binge weight'... about 5-6 kilos and a few inches off all over.

Glad to come across this forum, so I know I will have some support and can turn to you guys if I need help.

Warm welcome to Atkins and the ADBB, Sumi! Nice that you decided to join us here. You won't regret it... the board is a wonderful place to come if you have queries, difficulties, or just plain need to vent.

We go by the DANDR (Dr Atkin's New Diet Revolution) 2002 edition here, which is the last version of the programme written by Dr A in its entirety before he died. It hasn't had others messing around with it... and, if followed to the letter... it works!!
Getting hold of a copy and reading it, if you haven't already done so, is a good thing to do, as understanding how the plan works is a great help.

    Happy losing!

            Welcome to ABDD --

A few tips to help get you started: Eat only the foods on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables each day. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

            Good luck to you!

              Re: Newbie on here

              Hello,

Also a newbie here. Started 3 days ago, already down 4 lbs.

I have been working out everyday for 1 hour (treadmill) and 20-30 mins. weights at the gym. I will do my usual Saturday 3 mile walk outside in my neighborhood and rest day Sunday, my football day

I've been drinking recommended water amounts, and have not deviated from anything on acceptable induction list (except I think I may have had too much salad at lunch yesterday). Working on controlling my veg intake is one of the biggest problems I've had. But I have stayed under the 20 net carbs daily.

The caffeine decrease has been hard as well, as I have only one 12 oz. cup in the morning w/ 1 tbsp. heavy cream and 2 Splenda (down from 2-3 16 oz. cups per day before Atkins). Of course, counting the cream and splenda respectively in net carbs. Actually I haven't minded unsweetened decaf tea as much as I thought I would and have used that as my alternate drink besides water.

I'm rambling, so I'll stop. It's good to be on a board with others on the same plan because the people at my job (where I spend most of my time) think I am nuts.

Hope to have success with this plan again. I did it about 5 years ago and lost 60 lbs. but gradually gained all but 15 lbs. back since then.

              Happy low carbing!

                Re: Newbie on here

                Welcome, Heather!

Many people do best drinking more than 64 oz, if that's what you mean by "recommended amount". Something to think about...

From your post as a whole, I think you already know that tea has some carbs.

If you did not eat over 20 net carbs, you did well in my opinion.

                  Re: Newbie on here

Ah, yes. Tea, have been trying to stick to just 2-3 cups, counting the carbs as well.

And I think I have been drinking at least 80 oz. of water. I always drink a large bottle while working out plus have added 3-4 16 oz. bottles since induction started. And I always have a big cup of water on my nightstand which I drink before bed and finish when I wake up.

Gonna have a chicken breast and a cup of steamed broccoli for lunch in a couple hours. I measured it out and brought it from home to avoid overdoing the veg. I am going to have 2 cups of romaine lettuce with my steak for dins tonight. Its weird that more than cravings for sugar or bread (which I both LOVE) I really want to eat a bag of veggies. Very unlike me.
