  • The Time Is Now :-)

    Hello All
I am new to all of this and I am super excited to see all the amazing results from people who have tried and tested Atkins.
I started this last Monday, and I must say cravings are hard to handle. I hope it gets easier as the days pass!
I have been up and down with my weight all my life. It reall seemed to creep up on me when I was out of school. My highest weight was 260 lbs. I am currently 230 lbs. and cant wait to be at 145 lbs.

Welcome to the Atkins Board Carrie.

Glad you found the board and have already started the plan. Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) locally check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

A few more tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Many people try eating opposites when they have cravings - sugar cravings/eat pickles, olives, something sour or salty - you'll be amazed at how it works. Also, when you have cravings drink more pure water, many times you "think" you're hungry you are actually thirsty - so trying water first, then maybe pickles or olives....celery with cream cheese, any protein (chicken, beef, fish) dipped in mayo will help also - the fat will help keep you feeling full longer and keep the cravings at bay. I kept a bag of cut up veggies in the fridge so I could have a couple celery sticks or a radish when I wanted something.

Start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/ The challenges are another great place to meet people and get moving.

To make sure you don’t become bored by eating the same thing over and over look at these wonderful recipe sites – we have such great choices for menu ideas, eat a variety of things:

              Hi Carrie,

Welcome, it's very good to have you here.

Hang in there the cravings do get easier....I went back to Induction today (I messed up a few times this past month, so I decided to go back to Induction for a bit). Keep some higher fat foods handy such as Deviled eggs, hard boiled eggs, maybe some chicken wings, chicken salad mixture (with mayo) just to name a few on hand at all times...the higher fat foods help reduce the cravings.

Looking forward to getting to know you better and hearing updates along the way.

Keep coming around, read as many posts as you can and be sure to post as often as you like.

All the very best to you!

                    Welcome!

                    >> I am craving chocolate and crunchy things like chips. I>>

Celery can work for the crunch.

                    Or cucumbers.

Sometimes having something opposite of what you're "craving" helps.

And I can tell you that there is life without chocolate!

Pepper strips and jicama might also do the trick.

And it's better to eat vegetables with some fat and/or protein, to avoid blood sugar spikes.

For crunchy - I like cabbage.

You can also make some Cheese Crisps: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

Just make sure you stay within the rule for Cheese. I like to "save" a few carbs to have these once in a while (I'm all about the salty crunchy things - this satisfies it quite nicely).
