  • Hi, I hope this works!!!!

Hi Everyone, my name is Debbie and I am new to the Atkins diet. I just started today. I have been on another diet for 3 weeks, and have lost a total of about 2 pounds. I was so disgusted! I have a friend who has lost 28 pounds on the Atkins diet and wanted to try it, so here I am.

    Welcome!

My theory of Atkins is that it's not about how much you lose nor how fast you lose it ... it's about a healthy lifestyle and keeping the weight off!

      Welcome, Debbie!

If you've been on a diet right before starting Atkins and you severely restricted your calories, then you might experience some weight gain in the beginning. This is normal as your body is adjusting and making sure you are not going to starve it again.

Starving yourself on Atkins usually does not work. It's not a low calorie diet and you need to eat enough to give your body proper nutrition.

I hope you have read or are reading the book -- Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002).

Thanks guys. Well, I've been on it for one day and I've lost a pound. That's so much better than my former diet. Do you tend to weigh yourselves every day, because that's what I do.

It doesn't really matter what anyone else does.

If you're comfortable with weighing once a day, then that's good!

              Welcome
I do not weigh everyday -
Our weight fluctate a lot and some people get very discouraged when they see no loss or even a gain. This happens with all us but it is a learning process. If you can face the number every day, go for it.

Re: Hi, I hope this works!!!!

I weigh once a week and don't have the scale where I can see the rest of the week....there are too many variables from day to day - I have enough going on in my life that running to the scale isn't the most important thing to me.

Good luck to you -- get a copy of the 2002 DANDR and read it -- drink a minimum of 64 ounces pure water daily (nothing else counts), exercise starting today, take a multivitamin with no iron -- these are all mandatory with Atkins.

Ask questions, start a journal and start meeting people who are doing the same thing you are. Check the recipe sites for new things to make and eat -- you shouldn't get bored with the food selections, we have so much to choose from.
