  • Newbie here...and already frusterated

Hello ...I "was" so excited to start the Atikins plan...believe me, I need all the help I can get. I'm at 308, 5'5" and I am 32 years old. My hubby and I have no children..because I suffer from PCOS (mostly caused by obesity and too much sugars)...so the Atkins is the ideal plan for me to try and reverse my PCOS and lose the weight I know I need to lose.

My hubby and I are doing this together...and I am so happy for his support....but I (we need more). We bought the book (2002 edition) and I have read most of it. We are on day two. We are just so darn confused...or should I say I am. Here is my dilemma:
I understand that we should be eating no more or less than 20 net carbs a day and that 11 to 15 of them should be veggies. I went on the Atkins site to look at the 2 week menu plan that they had for induction and printed out some of the recipes from there. Some of them called for items that in the book clearly say we cannot have. For instance, one of them said two tablespoons of balsamic vinegar...but in the book it is not allowed during induction. Our biggest problem...getting the veggies in and finding recipes to give us the net carbs we need.

I thought we were so prepared...but I am starting to feel frusterated because I know we are not hitting our carb count and like I said, we are on day two..so I already feel like a failure

I've just tried so many weight loss plans, and I have succeeded in the past, but have always gained it back. I just want to be happy again, and love the skin I am in. I'm glad I found this website and look forward to meeting you all. Thank you!!

    Welcome!

My advice ... ignore the menu plan at the Atkins.com site ... it's inaccurate, relies too heavily on products (their own).

You should create your own menu plan from the list of Acceptable Foods for Induction!

    Here's some recipe sites:

Atkins Food and Recipes - Atkins Diet

Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

LowCarbRecipeBox : Low Carb Recipe Box

And here's a "correct" copy of the Induction food list (the one at Atkins.com has errors):

      Re: Newbie here...and already frusterated

The Atkins site is not the same as the book. As soon as Atkins passed away the company started to change the diet. Here we follow the book and we do not need to get confused by all the silly things they added. Their menus are particularly bad becasue they do not even follow their own rules.

      Anyways stick to book.

And you do not have to have 20 carbs - you do have to have most of your carbs coming from veggies. So if one day you have 17 carbs and total of 9 veggie carbs you are still good.

If you want some good recipes try

            Welcome:

Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

To make sure you don’t become bored by eating the same thing over and over look at these wonderful recipe sites – we have such great choices for menu ideas, eat a variety of things - good for you checking every ingredient against the acceptable food list....

              Bella,

Everyone before me has given you EXCELLENT advice and helpful links and info.

I DO have to say again, stay away from the Atkins Company website.

But definitely stay here at the ADBB.
You will get tons of support and questions answered by a lot of knowledgeable people.

And don't feel frustrated, after a while it gets a little easier. Read all the info provided, try some recipes, and it will all come together real soon!

                      >>we can have cream cheese (no low fat...) Went to the store tonight...all of them had sugar in it???>>

Um, Kraft Philadelphia in the block does not have sugar in the list of ingredients.

Make sure you're not confusing natural sugar (the lactose in the cheese) with added sugar. You have to do more than read the nutrition label.

                      >> I have successfuly drank 64 ounces and then some today.>>

A suggestion would be to drink 1/2 your current body weight in ounces of water. You will probably have to work up to that ... but I bet it will help you.

Also ... you're at the 4 ounce limit of cheese ... many find that that's a lot ... even though that amount is "allowed" ... it might be better to try for 2-3 ounces.

I use Philly Cream Cheese and don't have any trouble with it -- of course you don't sit down and eat a whole brick of it, we have limits on cheese - just watch how much you eat. If you feel it's giving you problems stop using it.
