  • Just started and thrilled so far

I just started Atkins Induction 2 days ago and am already down 4 lbs. I have been trying to lose the same 20-30lbs for 8 yrs! I have tried every thing out there from ww to nutrisystem and have never had these kind of results! Plus I absolutely love meat, cheese and veggies!
I have one question though, I found a site that had a meal plan for phase 1 and it included 2 Atkins bars a day. I went and bought 6 bars. After I ate the first I decided to look at the carb content. On the front in big lettering it said 2 net carbs but on the back it says 22 carbs so which is correct?
I look forward to learning more and getting to know everyone.

Well it is good to know their webside works They are a commercial company selling bars. They like to tell you that you can eat lots of their products and still lose weight. But it is not true for many of us.
Don't eat bars. They are stallers. Use them for emergency

So have you figured out about net carbs. Total carbs minus fiber.

The Atkins company (which is not the same as Atkins) decided that they could add something called glycerine to the bars and then not count the carbs. They explains the discrepancy between what it says on the front and back on those bars. I don't trust those bars.
Eat your meat, cheese (but only 4 oz) and veggies - and drink plenty of water and you will be fine.

Welcome to ADBB. Lovely to have you here

      Hi Liv,

I have no idea how the carb/net carb thing works. Am I suppose to stay under 20 net carbs or regular carbs? And how do I figure net carbs?
I'll stay away from the bars. My kids will love them ;-)
      Thanks

Do you have the book? It explains a lot of things.
If you do not have it yet here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you.
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What are the Rules of Induction?)
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html (What foods can be eaten on Induction?)
http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...lent-tips.html (A "MUST READ" for Newbies... 40 excellent tips!)

        Netcarbs are what we count
        They are carbs - fiber

So for instance one cup of turnip has 8 carbs but 2 fiber. So in reality it has 6 net carbs.
You can use websites to find out what kind of carbs are in your foods.
I often look things up here
Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com

Many of us use an online log place for food like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal that helps us measure things

You do not HAVE to eat 20 carbs. If you are under some days you are ok. But most carbs HAVE to be from vegetables.

        Hope that helps

The ones on the front are correct.

But as Liv said, some people are stalled or slowed down by them. And they don't help with your sweet tooth either.

As you can guess, my advice is also to avoid the bars.

              Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the this board and have started the plan. Make sure you read the book - it will give you the knowledge you need to get to your goal. If you can’t find a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) locally check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

A few more tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

To make sure you don’t become bored by eating the same thing over and over look at these wonderful recipe sites – we have such great choices for menu ideas, eat a variety of things:

Welcome to the ADBB. Hang in there and you will lose the weight!

I tried an Atkins bar for the first time a few weeks ago, only because of an emergency family situation and I had to rush to a hospital 80 miles from home, and ate nothing most of the day except coffee and a small salad until late in the day. (The hospital cafeteria's food was 1 step below a fast food place as far as choices. Actually a fast food place would have been better!) Anyway my son had to run out to a drug store for something he needed and brought me an Atkins bar from the drug store thinking it would be good for me. It tasted pretty good, but I got the worst stomach ache a few hours later! Yeah, the Atkins bars are not good for you, they are just made to make money.
