After being down 25 lbs in November I got off track terribly after Thanksgiving. I need some inspiration to start over. Has this happened to anyone. Motivational words and stories would be helpful. I am too scared to even step on the scale!!!!

    Re:

Last winter I went crazy with nuts and sugar free ice cream and I stopped exercising I gained back 30 pounds of fat I had worked so hard to lose. I was disheartened and that only made things worse. I realized one day that I was once again starting to dread people taking my picture. That was enough to make me decide to get back on track. I started back on plan and now I'm doing better then ever.

What I discovered is that getting back on track is EASY. Seriously. You already know what you need to do, all you need to do is do it. Forgive your past mistakes and forget about them. Then just decide that right now, right this second, you are back on plan. That is it.

The second you do that is the second you've created a fresh start for yourself. Every second that passes is a cheat free second. Those seconds add up to minutes, which add up to hours, which add up to days. Those days add up to the new healthy you that you want to be, but it comes from that one decision where you decide it's time for a fresh start.

I hope you decide that the time to make that decision is now.

I think everyone has their times where we've fallen off but you're the only one who can motivate yourself to get back on the scale and start over. You can go read stories of others who have had success stories Atkins Low Carb Success Stories - Atkins Diet.

Figure out what made your get away from getting yourself healthy and figure out how to stay out of the problem again. If it was a particular meal then find recipes you can make (or take ) that are legal.

Check the recipe sites to find good tasting meals that will make you want to stay on track. Good luck to you.

You have been given some wonderful advice

I wandered away Oct 07 and came back Oct 09 after realizing I couldn't continue the path I was on. I really agree with Carole that you really need to figure out what it was that set you off track.

For me... I started listening to the "friends and family" that would tell me that just one bite story. Or just this once and you can go back to your diet tomorrow. I started putting what I perceived as their feelings in front of my own. I had to decide that what I felt mattered, and since it was my body, I could put my own feelings above theirs. (ie: I know this is your birthday, or I know you spent hours cooking this, but if I eat this now, there is a good chance I will fall off track and gain every pound back )
I have had to give my "would you tempt a diabetic or alcoholic" speech a couple of times I now have my armor in place, and stay prepared. If I go visit a friend, it's becoming common knowledge that I may bring an appetizer plate to share of legal food I can eat. Dinner, yup, I'm bringing stuff. And after being stranded a couple of times, I've gotten bad enough that my little lunch ice chest goes with me with snacks, each time I get in the truck.

          Re:

I took days "off" starting 11/25-12/1 and gained 10lbs of what I know was water weight.

I ate out a lot, at delis (pastrami on rye, coleslaw), had turkey/stuffing/yam leftovers, ate chocolate, etc.

And after stuffing my face with avocado eggrolls from Cheescake Factory and the resplendent burps/gas/farts that ocurred over the next two days, I swore it wasn't worth it.

So it actually took me about 10 days to settle down and lose the water weight. I'm back down to where I was on 11/25 and really excited about continuing on.

Listen, we're all human. Food is my drug, and the drug of many others. On this forum, there are those who will criticise and chastise you or me if we fall off the wagon, with "Oh, it's a way of life," yada yada, and it really is. But in accepting it as a way of life, there are bumps in the road from time to time.

Get up, dust yourself off and start from where you left off. I am happy with the experience, and can't guarantee that there will never be another one, but I know that for the most part, this IS my WOE.

          Good luck and happy holidays!

            Re:

I'm there recently. With alot of stress going on I wandered off. I began new today and decided that I would NOT step on the scale to see where I am or was! Drink lots of water, get back on track and continue on, when you are ready, step on the scale. It's a number, it doesn't define who we are or what we are going to become. This is what I'm doing because I think that the scale number would certainly depress me more and I know that I need to more forward, high number on the scale or not.

You can do it, start today, you'll feel better!

                Re:

I wouldn't fret the scales too much if I were you. I strayed in april or may, came back on in October or November and was scared half to death to see how much weight I had gained. It was 10lbs when I figured for sure it was 25 or 30. It might not be as bad as you think.

As far as staying on track, just think of how much better you feel without that poison in your body.

Don't get on the scale it is just depressing. Just get on plan. Learn to stop beating yourself up and just know that Atkins is you lifestyle so any straying is a temporary aberration and then you will get back to NORMAL EATING on Atkins. Adopt it as what you do, every day, for your life. No recriminations. Just get going again. Beating yourself up can be counterproductive and drive you deeper into that hole. If you dont make a perfect day the first day, just keep on trying. You will eventually get there.
