  • Hi. I'm new and need a little help...

I've been trying a few different diets over the past 5 years to lose just 10-15 lbs. that keep finding their way back to my behind (and legs). I know this because they giggle and my pants keep shrinking.

Any tips on how to sit on a chair and not snack all day would be helpful.

    Stand up and walk around.

    Push the chair in.

Are you reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002)?

      Welcome to ADBB!

Do you have the book? Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002 edition)? If you haven't read it, I highly recommend you do so before you decide if this way of eating is for you.

Most people snack, not of hunger, but of boredom, I think. Keeping yourself busy and keeping a bottle of water around (drink water instead of eating) does help a lot.

I find that my desire to snack has completely changed (to less) since I went on Atkins as well, due to the natural appetite suppression of ketosis (and lots of natural fat in your diet makes you feel full longer too).

      Good luck to you!

Thanks for the tip. I try to walk around more and I do drink at least 2-32 ounce bottles of water throughout the day, so I am walking to the restroom quite often ;-)
I have not gotten my book yet, but look forward to reading it. My nephew and his wife lost a lot of weight this way so he has supplied me with a few tips on what I can and can NOT eat for now...wish me luck!

Did they keep the weight off?

          Did they read the book?

There's lots of stickies in the Atkins stages forums that can help until you get the book.

64 oz is the minimum - you can do more than that, and really, it's best if you do. I try for twice that a day!

I just read the limits for coffee and saccharin. It says that saccharin is safe "in moderation"-3 packs a day! I've been consuming 12-15 packs a day for 5 years!!! Now I'm really scared. Scared Straight is GOOD...right?

The limit is ANY sweetener ... not just saccharin.

Back in the day, I worked at a convenience store. I developed a major caffeine and sweetner addiction (Diet Coke, oh, how I have loved thee...). I would drink up to 128 oz a day of diet soda, I kid you not.

I worked on it, slowly over time for about 6 months, and today, I have one 12 oz can of Diet Coke (usually the one with Splenda) at lunch, and I have one hot tea at breakfast - sometimes with some sweetener, sometimes not, depends on which tea I'm having.

I broke the caff addiction - you can break the sweetener addiction.

I believe you about the diet soda. I too, worked at a convenience store years ago and that's where I developed my addictions. At least then I was more active. I can't imagine how hard it is going to be to give up coffee. My soda of choice is Diet Pepsi (nectar of the Gods). I can see already that this message board will help me through the tough times ahead.
                    Thanks to all!

Diet Pepsi?!? You prefer it when you have Diet Dr. Pepper available? For shame! What kind of convenience store did YOU work in?!?!

Yep - that's such a crappy job and since it pays so poorly, you get used to the free soda as a "perk" and a strict necessity when you have to pull a double from the swing shift because the graveyard shift person called out (again) and you can't find anybody else to pull the shift. Took me years and years to finally break that addiction that I developed at 19 years old...

It's nice, no longer being a slave to it. I drink it on occasion but I no longer get irritated when I get up and can't have any caffeine to start the day.

I drink a nice cold bottle of water instead!

It's almost as good as when I finally kicked smoking!

                        Welcome to the Atkins Board.

Glad you found the board and are excited about starting the plan. Make sure you read the book once you get it - to give yourself the knowledge you'll need to get to your goal. One of the things you'll find is Atkins is a way of eating over a lifetime, not just a way to drop 10-15 pounds then go back to eating the same stuff you were eating that made you gain weight to begin with. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

A few more tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added) more is better but make sure you get the minimum. Exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins so start now and get off on the right foot. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

To make sure you don’t become bored by eating the same thing over and over look at these wonderful recipe sites – we have such great choices for menu ideas, eat a variety of things:

Only if you eat it. Him just bringing it home shouldn't do it. Seriously, dressing will not "ruin" a week of induction, but depending on the ingredients, you may or may not choose to eat it. If the ingredients are induction friendly, then you're OK.
