  • Hello from Louisiana!!

    Hi all,
    just introducing my self.
I am 42 married with three teens!! two boys and a girl.
I need to lose appoximately 80lbs!!!
I am borderline diabetic, borderline HBPressure and TIRED OF NOT FITTING INTO MY CLOTHES!!

So I started my induction stage 5 days ago but have yet to go into ketosis. haven't cheated and have been staying under 20 carbs...
So while searching through here I figured out I should do the spit test and I will do that first thing tomorrow and will let you'all know he results.

    Glad to be here!!!

How do you know this? Are you using Ketostix? They are not reliable. You can be in ketosis without changing their color.

have been staying under 20 carbs...
    Net carbs?

What about posting a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs? Then we'll take a look and maybe we can make some suggestions.

      HI!,

yes I am using ketosticks and no color change after5 days.
I am offshore at work so it is easy for me to say on the program, we have a buffet styleline and I can pick the good stuff from the line.
A typical menu is this,(well, this is what I ate yesterday):

      BREAKFAST (5:30)
scrambled eggs, sausage link or bacon.

      LUNCH (11:00)
hamburger patty with two slices of tomato, mustard/ketchup wrapped in lettuce leafs.

      SUPPER (5:00PM)
      beef brisket slices.
      1/2 cup of broccoli

and that is it. I go to bed around 10:00 PM no snacks no diet sodas.

I will note down what I eat today also and post it tonight.

(forgot to mention, we also have Dasani water bottles so it is easy to keep track of my water intake)

A few things jumped right out at me. You are not eating anywhere near enough veggies and you should use cream rather than any creamer. Ketchup has sugar and is not allowed. Your water intake should be about half your body weight in ounces. Do you have the 2002 DANDR book? It would explain what induction should look like. You also may not be eating enough calories. Sizes of portions would help us figure it out.

          Hi Chinadoll,
thanks for reminding me about ketchup. It also has vinegar so this will be cut out immediately since I am also trying to starve out this precious little guest named Miss Candida...

I haven't read the book lately, I borrowed it from a friend and read it once but I thought I had the jist of it pretty good. I guess I should re-read it.

I'm pretty sure I am eating enough calories, I eat normal portions compared to other males my age out here on the rig.

So my body weight is 268lbs so half my body weight is 134lbs sooooo...how many fluid oz's?

I am going to start eating more "allowed" veggies I think you are correct there.

Oh! almost forgot! my ketostick said "trace amount" this morning!

          that is encouraging.

              LOL! That's adorable.

No, you don't spit on Ketostix. The "spit test" is to test for Candida: Candida Test

                  Welcome aboard!

Yes, watch the ketchup... and I wouldn't do the powder creamer either, try heavy cream while on induction..

Remember - ketostix don't always show that you're in ketosis... I personally never used them, I just went by the physical signs...

                    Re: Hello from Louisiana!!

The sticks never changed color for me -- so after 6 weeks of trying over and over I threw them away and haven't used them since. I can tell by the taste in my mouth when I'm in keotsis.

The sausage you are eating may have sugars or other non-legal fillers in them. Are the scrambled eggs made from fresh eggs or from liquid eggs? Ketchup was already mentioned. You should be eating 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of veggies from the "other list" -- you didn't have near enough in your day that you posted.

Here is the acceptable food list - these are the only foods you should be eating. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

A few more tips to help get you started: Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water daily (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin - these are mandatory with Atkins. Also, start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/

                    Good luck to you!

Here is what I ate yesterday thursday 17th (keep in mind that I don't write down my water intake which is ALOT ):

                      BREAKFAST
small bowl scrambled eggs (prolly 4 eggs)

                      LUNCH
small bowl of spaghetti sauce with ground beef

                      DINNER
10 oz steak, small bowl of salad, lettuce tomatoes, onions, italian dressing (3 grams carbs).

                      later on...
3 1/2" slabs of ham cut right off the bone...

Currently we due to the weather being so bad we haven't been able to get more groceries sent out so we are really low on fresh veggies or I would be eating more.

                        LOL you are too funny!!
Thank you very much.. careful though, you're going to give me a BIG head! hehe. kidding !!

So about your menu... What kind of spaghetti sauce? What are the ingredients? Any sugar? Same with the Italian dressing... from my experience, most have sugar.. which is soooooo not good.

And you're not eating enough veggies!! Try to add some kind of veggie in with every meal. During induction you can have 3 cups of salad or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of other veggie from the acceptable food list..
And you want to spread your veggies out so you don't spike your insulin.

                          Re: Hello from Louisiana!!

On the spaghetti sauce, it is home-made by our cook out here dunno if he put sugar in it, i doubt it. wasn't so sure about it so that is why I only had a small bowl of it.
The italian dressing had 3 grams of carbs I checked it.
I'm kind of at a disadvantage out here because we are running really low on groceries and can't get anymore until the weather gets better.
so i am having to skimp on veggies and going hungry instead of eating the food that is available.
                          I'm trying though... I'm trying.
