  • I have returned to the good Doctor's Way of Life

    Hello out there,

Diabetes killed my father and is now attempting to take me out. After being a staunch proponent of the good Doctor's books, especially the one written after he passed away by Mary Vernon, alas, I stopped adhering to his recommendations.

And guess what - Fasting Blood Sugar went up, A1C went up, BP went up, LDL's went up, etc.

I have now returned and cannot stray for the rest of my life.

God bless the good Doctor for helping us all with this new way of fighting this disease, and God help the AMA, ADA, etc. to get on board and realize that their recommendations are misguided and are doing nothing to help with this disease.

      Welcome to the ADBB!

We use the 2002 edition of the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution here and don't go by anything that's been published in his name since his death because they have gone totally commercial and are only concerned with selling their products.

You're right that this is the best diet for both health and weight reduction. I'm glad you've come back to it.

Hi and welcome back to Atkins --

Whatever you did before, or what you read other people are doing is the past. Your body is different than anyone so it’s best not to compare with anyone - following the plan the way it's written will give you’re the results you’re looking for. Look around and find something that interests you and join in. Check the STAC Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet for additional support.

As mentioned above, I hope you already have the 2002 DANDR book and have read it (or are reading it), it is the edition we follow on this site. If not it's worth a few dollars to purchase – check www.half.com or www.amazon.com. Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of pure water daily, exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin – these are mandatory when following Atkins.

Check this page for answers to a lot of your questions: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html. Make sure you are eating enough vegetables – Atkins isn’t just meat and cheese – vegetables are a huge part of your daily menu and is where most of your carbs should be coming from.

The recipe sites will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- check them out!

Re: I have returned to the good Doctor's Way of Life

Thank you everyone. I have the 2002 book as well as the Atkins For Life book. I have strayed form the good Doctor's advice and can no longer do so. I am intimatley aware of his recommendaitons, but thought I was a bit bulletproof.

And you guys are right about each person's body being different. I had been eating those Atkins Advantage bars for the past 5 years probably 5 out of 7 days for breakfast. I have been testing my blood sugar after all of my meals for the past week or so and noticed that after a bar my blood sugar shot up. I was shocked. Here I was thinking I was eating well every morning. I researched a bit, found this site and those bars are now out the door (even though I have dozens of them.) I'll have my kids eat them, as they are better for them than the normal candy bars they eat.

Re: I have returned to the good Doctor's Way of Life

Warm welcome to the ADBB and welcome back to Atkins. Good to have you here with us. Sometimes, it takes a few bullets to realise we're not bulletproof, more's the pity. Anyway, I'm sure that in a couple of months your numbers will have improved dramatically.

If you click on "Tickers" on the bar near the top of the page, you'll see how to get a ticker to record your losses, too.

Happy losing... and here's to your successful journey to better health!
