    Hi Everyone!!
Tomorrow will be my first day on the Atkins WOE!! Very excited to get started but I have one question..I read "Dr Atkins Diet Revolution" not "Dr Atkins NEW Diet Revolution". Am I going to be missing out on a lot with the old book or do I need to buy the new one to get started??? What is the difference in the two?? Your help is much appreciated!!!

"Only" 30 years of Dr. Atkins' experience with patients.

or do I need to buy the new one to get started???
Yes, you need the new book.

What is the difference in the two??
There's lots of them. Since you read the 1972 book, you should be able to see the differences yourself by reading through the FAQs here:

Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's - Atkins Diet

At ADBB we go by Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002).

        Re: Starting tomorrow

Warm welcome to Atkins and the ADBB. Kudos to you for reading the book before starting. I'd definitely advise your getting the later book (DANDR). It'll be interesting for you to see the differences. DANDR is the book this board goes by as it's the last one Dr A wrote in its entirety, before his death.

Meantime, take a look at the FAQs here, and the induction legal food lists etc. You should be good to go!

        Happy losing and Happy Christmas!

It would be good if you could plan tonight what you are going to eat tomorrow for all meals, not only for breakfast. The first few days are a bit tough for many.

Actually... I've found planning very important during all phases of Atkins, not only during Induction.

You can enter your foods in FitDay to keep track of your carbs and everything else: FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

And since you are used with the 1972 plan... don't forget about vegetables. They are essential for health and weight loss. You are allowed many more in the 2002 plan and over half of your net carbs (total carbs minus dietary fiber) should come from them.

                    Re: Starting tomorrow

Thanks for the tip Georgiana! I have nothing to do tonight so making a menu is not a bad idea at all..this way ill have tomorrows foods planned out and a strict grocery list ready to go. I did print out the legal induction foods list from the atkins website plus a carb count document I found on another post on this website..i think this should help me with the legal veggies and foods till I get the right book..

Thanks again and wish me luck..tomorrow is THE day!!

                      >>with it being Christmas and all ..there are too many temptations around me!>>

                      There's temptation every day!

                      >>I did print out the legal induction foods list from the atkins website>>

Their list, ironically, isn't correct! Items are listed incorrectly, and some legal foods are left off.

                      Better to use:

                          Re: Starting tomorrow

So I started teh other day and things are going great!! I love the foods and I am cooking everyday! Although I do miss something sweet after dinner..
I do have a question about fitday. I decided to enter all my foods in today from the last 2 days. This may be a dumb question but why is it that the carb count in certain foods goes up once its cooked. For example 1 cup raw eggplant is 4.7 but 1 cup cooked is 8.4? Is it because once cooked some foods shrink so you can fit more into a cup? I measured the 1 cup eggplant before it was cooked so I should go with 4.7 right? I did cook it in some oil but dont think that should make a difference because I am allowed oil..
                          Clarification is appreciated! Thanks!

                            >>? Is it because once cooked some foods shrink so you can fit more into a cup?>>

                            Yes.

                            >>I measured the 1 cup eggplant before it was cooked so I should go with 4.7 right?>>

                            Yes.

You most likely did not end up with 1 cup cooked.

With Fitday, it's generally a good idea to enter the food in the "raw" state.

Fitday often adds ingredients to cooked foods ... and we don't really know what they've added.

So ... if you have 2 scrambled eggs, you want to select "eggs, whole, raw", rather than the "scrambled eggs" entry.

And don't forget that Fitday doesn't show you NET carbs ... you have to look below and do the subtraction yourself.

                            Hope that helps.

                            >>I do miss something sweet after dinner>>

That's a habit. As time goes on and you break the habit, you won't miss it.
