  • Hi Everyone!

Hi All, I'm new here and have been doing induction for 8 days, and I haven't lost a pound! I've been being very careful to only eat what is on the list and haven't "cheated" - any suggestions as to why I haven't lost anything?

    Re: Hi Everyone!

    Welcome to ADBB!

Can you post a complete menu, with quantities and net carbs for all foods?

How much water are you drinking?

What are your stats? Height, current weight, goal weight...

      Re: Hi Everyone!

The best way to get help re: weight loss is to give us an itemized list of everything you put in your mouth in a day...

      ie: 2 eggs = .8 carbs
      40 grams cheddar cheese = 1.5 carbs
      1 cup sliced mushrooms = 2.3gr - .7 fiber = 1.6 carbs
      96 oz total water
      16 oz non- caf coffee
      1 T cream
      etc, etc.......

Also if you add you height, weight, and goal it helps us give an educated opinion....

      MAY 2010 Challenges
      ABS-1200, Squats-1200, Lunges-400, PushUps-700, Stability Ball-250 mins,

          Re: Hi Everyone!

Hi again, I don't think I'm drinking enough water (About 5 glasses a day) as far as Food a typical day is:

          2 Eggs
          3 Slices of Bacon
Two hot dogs with mustard (Package says 1 carb each)
Dinner is usually about 1 1/2 cups iceberg lettuce with a slice of ham lunch meat and mayo as the dressing
Snack usually is about 4 ounces of pepper jack cheese

I am drinking diet caffeine soda - is that bad?

I'm 5'8", 27 years old, and at my highest weight EVER of 210lbs!! I was on birth control that messed up my hormonal levels - and I gained about 50lbs in the last year with no changes in diet! So now that I've switched birth controls I am trying Atkins, my goal weight is about 145-150lbs.

          Thanks!!

            Re: Hi Everyone!

            Hi there!
Well a few things jump out right away -

First off, you're not getting near enough veggies! & per the book, you don't want to eat your veggies all at once because it could cause spike in insulin..

Is the bacon cured in sugar? - trust me, it MATTERS!
And do the hotdogs have sugar? Hotdogs are not a good choice.. I eat them only rarely personally. You want to aim for real food.

Also, pepper jack might not be the best choice either.. And 4 oz might be too much for you..

            LOL.
I know it's a lot but you gotta be deligent, espeicially in the begenning!
            It gets easier, I promise!

            Also, are you exercising?

What really jumps out is that you're not eating enough vegetables. Over half of the net carbs you're consuming should be coming from vegetables and undereating carbs from vegetables is generally a bad idea.

You are also undereating calories. Did you calculate your BMR? I bet it's much higher than what you're eating now.

What are the ingredients in the hot dogs?

You're eating a lot of processed meat. Not good choices, imo.

And instead of snacking on cheese, you can snack on vegetables. Just because 4 oz of cheese are allowed, it doesn't mean you must eat 4 oz.

I am drinking diet caffeine soda - is that bad?
Another bad choice, imo. Diet sodas are junk.

In any case, sweeteners are limited to 3 servings per day. A serving of diet soda would be 8 oz.

About the soda - diet soda stalls some people.
I had a problem with it for a long time.

I do ok with it now but it does spike my cravings so I try to avoid it for the most part.

                  Is it made with Splenda?

Ingredients are important, too! And just because the label says "0", it doesn't mean the carbs are zero. In the US, if the carbs are below 0.5 g per serving, they are rounded to 0.

You should be drinking about 105 ounces of water. Diet soda is not water!

You need more food, too. And less processed food.

If you can’t find a copy of the 2002 Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) locally check online at www.half.com or www.amazon.com. Eat only foods listed on the acceptable food list and eat a variety of foods and vegetables. (Atkins Diet Induction FAQs) http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/atkins-diet-14-day-induction/77558-atkins-diet-induction-faqs.html.

Just looking at the carb part of the label isn't enough....you need to read the ingredients - learn the different words used for "sugar" because most processed foods are loaded with fillers and sugars. The only hot dogs I've found that I will eat are either Nathan's or Hebrew National because the ingredients are the best. The cheaper the hot dog the less "meat" is in them. Also look at what's in your ham lunch meat...like I've said, learn what you're putting in your body and make the best choices.

Plan your meals for a fews days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added) more is better but a minimum of 64 ounces daily!Exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html . If you need anything we’re here to help you!!

                          Good luck to you!
