  • Yet Another Newbie :)

Hey everyone. My name is Bekki.

    I'm a 25-year-old wife and mother of a 9-month-old baby girl.

I've struggled with weight since I was about 12 due to PCOS and underactive thyroid. I was doing pretty good back in 2008 with eating healthy and going to the gym 2 hours a day...

Then I got pregnant. My pregnancy weight gain was fine, until I was put on bed rest for 3 months because my daughter tried to make her grand appearance early.

That was when my weight went through the roof. By the time I gave birth (induced at 41 weeks - go figure), I had gained 50 lbs.

I dropped about 30 lbs after the birth, but I still had quite a few hanging on. To make matters worse, I struggled with some severe breastfeeding issues, and the drug I took to help only caused more weight gain.

My daughter weaned herself early at 8 months, so I stopped taking the drugs and was ready to lose weight - but ohh, those darn holidays got in the way. My husband and I fought over what we would eat for the month of December (he's 34 going on 8, and LOVES junk food for the holidays) and I gave in. But - on the condition that he would start Atkins with me as soon as the holidays were over.

Well, here we are! January 2, and the day has been good so far. I bought and read the book back in November, and I'm pretty sure I have a good handle on what we're going to do.

I'm going on an extended induction, and DH is doing 2 weeks before he switches to Ongoing Weight Loss. He's OK with having induction-friendly dinners when he is home from work so that I can stay on track.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you on here as best I can. I've been lurking this board for quite some time and have already gotten lots of great meal ideas and TONS of inspiration from all of you who have lost so much weight!

    Welcome!

Wondering why you're doing an "extended" Induction? How long are you going to "extend"?

Keep rereading the book ... there's always something new to find in it that helps.

Atkinsgal - I'm doing the extended induction because I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I've heard that it's super good for people with IR.

I plan on starting out at one month, then re-evaluating. If I feel like I absolutely cannot take it, I will move onto OWL so that I don't get discouraged. Just going to take it a week at a time after that.

I presume that's information from DANDR?

Atkins is certainly good for both. Whether or not an Extended Induction will help ... that will depend on YOUR body.

That's good. Also make sure you use Ch. 12 and 13 in your book to help with your evaluation.

              Welcome to both of you

Check Linda's recipe site it will help keep you from eating the same thing over and over -- http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/menus.html . If you need anything we’re here to help you!!

Your husband can add foods from the rung he's on even if you aren't on the rung with him. If he isn't adding foods he's doing extended induction also....I thought staying on extended induction would help with my weight loss but it didn't - I didn't do well until I went on to Rung 1 and added more vegetables.

Plan your meals for a fews days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

Good luck to both of you.
              Carole
