Hi everyone. My name is Tina and I have started the induction phase today. I do have the correct copy of dandr 2002, & have brushed up on chapt. 10-14, so I think I am good to go. My main hangup will be giving up caffeine. I typically drink 4 cups of java every day, with French Vanilla creamer.
I have started this diet a few times but never had the willpower to follow it through, or to follow it to a "T". Sooo, I am hoping with the encouragement and helpful suggestions of all of you guys, I will follow through this time around.
I am a single parent, full time student, and have 3 part time jobs. So, life can be crazy at times, but I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.
I have another reason for succeeding this time: my mother, who is 58, has been doing a "modified" Atkins and has lost 12 lbs.... so she is smaller ( & taller) than me now. I want to pass her up on this weight loss. lol.
So, if anyone wants to be a buddy, just let me know. I check my email constantly but may not be on this site on a daily basis.
Thanks for listening & good luck to all!

    Welcome to ADBB.

    >>French Vanilla creamer>>

This isn't allowed on Atkins ... if you read the list of ingredients you'll see that it has sugar and most likely, trans fats. It's a true "frankenfood"!

You should use real cream instead.

And there's a limit of 2-3 Tbs. of cream per day.

      j,
Thanks, I know that particular creamer is not allowed... that's part of my problem. I did not have it today... and thought that I would just quit cold turkey. We will see. I got some Excedrin Migraine today but worry that since it has caffeine that I can't take that during induction....?
      Thanks!

        Re: Intros

Caffeine should be cut down slowly, to avoid headaches.

You might want to try either reducing the amount of coffee you drink, or start making 1/2 caf 1/2 decaf.

Not everyone gives up caffeine ... Dr. Atkins recommends giving it up ... and it's probably better for you long term without.

The Excedrin might help with the withdrawals ... and the tapering off ... if you are doing cold turkey, then that's the wrong pain reliever!

That medicine has caffeine in it... so I thought it would be the best one? I think the tapering off will be better though. I have been drinking coffee for about 20 years now... Thanks for the info. I feel better to know that I don't have totally give it up.

                Re: Intros

Thanks Tina! I just started Dec the 10th and at that time I thought that I would never be able to give up pasta, but I haven't had any since. It is harder for some, and easier for others to give up addictions, I know. I really hope you get it worked out!! My carb cravings went away after about a week and a half starting Atkins, so I hope yours does too!

                  Welcome -

Plan your meals for a fews days so you have everything in your home and you won’t be tempted to eat something not allowed. Drink a minimum 64 ounces of pure water (nothing added), exercise and take a non-iron multivitamin daily. Look at the challenges to see if there is anything that interests you - start a journal, it's a great place to get everything out in the open, be accountable to yourself - you'll also meet some great people there! http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...journal-chats/. There’s something for everyone here!

Make sure you're in this for the long run, Atkins isn't a quick fix "diet" -- it's a lifelong way of eating. Good luck to you.
