  • Thank You!

    Hello Everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone here for their wisdom, support and success stories. I have followed this bulletin board since I started back on 12 Nov 09. I wanted to make sure I would stick with this new way of life before I became a member and started posting.

I have struggled with my weight since I was 9 years old. I have had success in the past, however over the last 8 years bad eating habbits and bad decisions have put me where I was in June 2009... an all time high of 275 lbs.

Back in 2000, At 19 years old I was at 245 lbs. A friend of mine suggested the Body For Life program. So, I gave it a try. In 24 weeks, I went from from 245 down to 195. Life was good so I stopped.

Well over the last 8 years, I slowly gained all my weight back plus an extra 30 pounds. I made several attempts to reduce my weight but had little success.

A few years ago, a friend of mine lost 60 pounds over the winter following the Atkins plan. He has never gained any of that back. I often wanted to give Atkins a try, however it was not recommended by any of my doctors.

Well this June when I looked at my scale, I recieved a wake-up call. From June until November, I played the game of eating oatmeal in the morning, a salad with light dressing for lunch and a "balanced" dinner; along with daily exercise. I only dropped 10 pounds in five months. With a promotion pending on my physical condition and time running out, I stopped playing their game and started playing this one.

With all that being said, I look foward to this new journey and am very greatful that all of you are here to share this experience with me. So again, Thank You!

      Re: Thank You!

So far, so good. It almost seems too good to be true. In the past few years, I have done alot of trial and error. Anything from 800 calorie a day diets to "The Slim Fast" plan. I just kept packing on pounds. This is 100% the easiest thing I have ever done. It does have it's moments, like the holidays but I know in the end it will pay off.

        I know
I think skinny people suck when it comes to give advice. My favorite was "just eat less" Duh why did I not think of that.

Glad you like it. You have already lsot 30 some pounds on Atkins - that is great!

You know there's no "end" to doing Atkins, right?!

              Re: Thank You!

That was just a figure of speech. In the end to me means: when I get down to my goal weight and maintain it. That's the light at the end of my tunnel and I am just stating that times can be tough but in the end I know it will pay off.

                Got it.

Some people do believe that when they get to their goal weight, they stop doing Atkins.

                  Re: Thank You!

Thanks imagood1. I have been drinking alot of water each day. Usually between a gallon and a gallon and a half. Some say that may be too much water, however it really helps fight cravings and other obstacles. As far a vitimans go, I havent been taking any. I will get some on my next day off. As far as working out, I do as little as possible for 2 reasons. I do not want to loose my weight to quick and get alot of loose skin and right now things are going great. I know eventually I will hit a wall and progress will slow down and that is when I plan on adding a 45min cardio session every other day. When I first started I didn't want to push it. I didn't know how my body was going to react to Atkins. I was one of the lucky ones and lost 16 lbs in the first week. Progress has been steady and I will soon share my weekly results with everyone Friday when I weigh in. P.S. what vitamans would you recommend?

Understood. I knew where you were going with that. I just did'nt want you to think that I was a person looking for the "quick fix". I'm here for the long haul. My career and retirement count on it and I have at least 10 years left. Thank you for watching out though

Exercise actually helps with loose skin.

It's also better for your health!

Dr. Atkins recommended one without iron. Senior and men versions are normally iron free.

Exercise from the beginning will help your body shape up AS you're loosing weight and help prevent your skin sagging as much as without exercise. But, you know best!

As far as water - I know many people here who drink a gallon or more of water....the minimum, according to Dr. Atkins, is 64 ounces pure water (nothing added) -- many here say drink half your weight. Glad you are at least drinking water - so many people don't.

                          Good luck.
